A junior minister in the British Government discovers a terrorist plot to detonate a nuclear device in London. Putting self-preservation first, he flees with a young American political advisor to a re-commissioned Secret Nuclear Underground Bunker - S.N.U.B. They find themselves entombed in the bunker, together with a disparate group of individuals caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, along with Army and RAF personnel. The terrorist bomb is found, but attempts by bomb disposal experts fail to prevent it exploding, destroying central London and contaminating the surrounding countryside.
As a result of the blast a group of dangerous convicts break out from a local high security prison, but are contaminated with radiation and start to mutate. The mutants infiltrate the bunker and one by one the occupants endure a horrible, grisly death. Eventually one of the survivors escapes from the bunker to make contact with the outside world and a rescue helicopter is organised. But inside the S.N.U.B. the mutants are closing in. Not everyone will make it

UN.S.N.U.B.B.E.D!,

A huge bomb wipes out London, leaving only a small group of survivors holed up in a nearby Secret Nuclear underground Bunker. However, things get from awful to even worse, as the inmates of a local prison have escaped due to the blast and have become mutated by the radioactive fallout, now they too are hell-bent on getting into SNUB! Not a bad film to be fair, it is an obvious nod to the B-Movies of old. The director even admits (in the bonus features) that it is all tongue in cheek, and the corny acting is somewhat purposeful, hmmm. The characters themselves are okay, with some familiar faces, they ham it up like it was made by the BBC. It's the usual cast, there's a wimpy politician, the tidy American girl, the desperate mother and her children, the soldiers and the brave main hero, all battling amongst themselves in typical style. Though the monsters were the main let down for me, at one point I'm sure I saw one smiling at the camera like he didn't know it was recording. They also just seem to be thrown in at random, and as the films saving grace is it's 74 minute runtime, the bad guys only make an appearance within the last 15 minutes. And to be honest I would have preferred the film without them in it. With that said, the production is slightly better than was expecting and the low budget effects were neatly done, with some decent CGI scenes. Plus it was all filmed on location, in a real underground bunker, which gives it a certain atmosphere. It's flawed, but in my opinion it is one of the better Independent English horrors of late and worth a watch. So if you are a fan of horror B-movies and appreciate them for the efforts made, I would recommend this title,

SNUB reminded me of those TV plays on a wet, wednesday afternoon on the BBC. I watched it, got a little bored, watched it some more, got a little disinterested, watched a little more and then it was over. Blah... Of course, there is a nuclear explosion and some mutants (overweight skinheads with a wart or two and a desire to eat all the pies), it just needed a budget and some actors who have actually graduated from RADA. The characters were typically stereotyped (the politician character seemed to have walked into his role straight from playing a pantomime ugly sister), the "mutants" were of the classic "extras" type, pointless, tame and stupid, but sporting a nice line in crew cuts and post-apocalypse sports leisureware. Why do post nuclear attack humans lose their voices only to develop strange lion-warthog roars and squeals? I guess that`s what happens when you allow psychopathic prison inmates access to the Jeremy Kyle Show of an evening.
The actual nuclear bunker was okay looking, basically what you would expect from such grim surroundings, but it was all very join the dots and rather a waste of what could have been much more of an involved "character" in itself. I wasn`t expecting Hamlet and I sure didn`t disappoint my expectations. I know low budget movies (particularly UK low budget movies) can`t compete with the big spending CGI spectaculars and SNUB suffers from a lack of virtually any budget, but there was a decent idea in the middle of all this mess and SNUB could have made the best of it`s location and storyline to produce perhaps a nice little diamond in the rough. Instead, we have a BBC TV play on a wet, wednesday afternoon, and not a very good one at that.

Snub this one!,

I didn't dislike this film it's just a bit pointless to be honest!
For what is presumably a very low budget movie, the special effects aren't bad actually. I quite liked the set too I felt it looked a lot like what you'd expect from a British Nuclear bunker! Supposedly the acting is deliberately ham? Well, I'd say the acting is pretty poor to be honest, pretty much across the board! The lieutenant isn't too bad and the guy that's the sergeant/engineer is okay as well. The daughter's friend was okay too. No outstanding performances though and many rubbish ones, particularly from the minister, one of the main characters. If the acting is purposefully ham acting then surely there would be over-exaggeration in the characters reactions to the various difficulties they face? This is rare, more often it may as well just be a shrug of the shoulders. The basic idea is good but the end is just ridiculous. Something particularly bad happens to one of the young members of the family near the end and the mother doesn't seem to be that bothered at all! Things just happen in the film and aren't really explained either by what you see or what you hear. The mutants act with no clear pattern either, killing some victims and capturing others. The two captives are both female but other females die by the hands of the mutants, in some cases without even an attempt at capture. It isn't really a scary film at all either, I don't know what classification I'd give it but I wouldn't say horror. On the plus it's the best British Secret Underground Nuclear Bunker film I've seen this year.
