Product Description

In the second book of the SNAP Kandesky vampire series, Maxie Gwenoch, media-savvy editor of the multinational celeb gossip magazine SNAP, is pummeled in Paris and kidnapped in Kiev as the Huszars ramp up the race to oust their centuries-old rivals, the Kandeskys.

SNAP's owners, the Kandesky family of vampires, built the world's most popular celeb coverage empire but this isn't just a business take-over. These powerful vampire families lived with an uneasy peace for four centuries until Maxie came in to boost SNAP's coverage and started making inroads into the Huszar's traditional hunting territories.

Although Jean-Louis, Maxie's lover, vampire and second-in-command of the Kandeskys, tries to keep her safe, Maxie is determined to do things her way, a way that may lose her her job, her love and her life.

This is a new edition.  It has been reformatted and contains additional bonus material.

About the Author

I was born in Santa Cruz, California to a family that migrated west to San Francisco in 1849. Unfortunately, they never found gold, nor did they buy (and hang onto) any California land. My mother named me Michael, after author and actress Blanche Oelrichs, who wrote under the name of Michael Strange. After months of saying, "Yes, she's a girl. Yes, her name is Michael," my mother finally caved and I became "Michele." I was read to as a child, and needed always to have a book with me. My maternal grandmother belonged to a writing club in San Francisco in the early part of the 20th century and wrote poems and jingles--one of which won her a travel trailer during the Depression. I've lived in San Francisco, the Bay Area, the Central Valley, the Sierra, Southern California and the North Coast. My first career was in journalism, and I spent seven years as a staff writer with the San Jose Mercury News. After returning to Humboldt State University to complete school and work on a master's, I fell into my second career, as a non-profit administrator.I spent time as a reporter and editor for daily papers in California. I was the city, metro and executive editor for daily newspapers in California's Central Valley and managed non-profit agencies, including a legal organization serving roughly 10,000 senior citizens in Alameda County. I'm a member of the Society of California Pioneers and Sisters in Crime and live in California's Central Valley with a cat, skunks, wild turkeys and an opossum (only the cat gets to come in the house). 5.0 out of 5 stars Original Vampire Story 25 May 2012

This is a complex well-developed alternative present where vampires, demons and werewolves live alongside humans. The world is original, blending a very contemporary business, SNAP, a celebrity media news organisation, with centuries old vampires who live in a castle in Hungary. A war is brewing between two vampire groups, the forward thinking and very wealthy Kandeskys who own SNAP, and the Huzars, who have up until now clung to their roots and lived more like the traditional vampires of mythology--killing humans. The heroine Maxie is right in the middle of the conflict as the Kandeskys move into the Eastern block European countries, intruding on territory that has traditionally been the domain of the Huzars. Lots of complex political intrigue, posturing and manoeuvring takes place, much as in real life when big organisations go head to head, along with threats and violence. Maxie has to walk a fine line between getting her job as managing editor done and staying alive. Throw in a romance with the urbane Jean-Louis, second in command of the Kandesky vampires, and you have an original and engrossing urban fantasy. I've read a lot of urban fantasy and paranormal romance, but I've not come across another world quite like the one in SNAP. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Transported! 27 April 2012
By OnTheMark - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Ms. Drier successfully transports our minds to a medieval time of vampires, demons and shapeshifters while keeping our feet firmly planted in the fast paced world of a modern media empire. Our experience of the day to day operations of the influential SNAP conglomerate is an authentic one thanks to the author's in depth research.
Mortal heroine Maxie learns from her immortal lover, vampire Jean Louis, how to live in the now. Perhaps Maxie is right when she observes that if we lacked knowledge of death, we could let go of the frenetic pace of our lives.
The non-stop action sweeps across Eastern Europe, drawing modern day Chechens and Russian Mafiosi into the centuries-old conflict between two feuding vampire families.
The ending is a cliff-hanger. Bring on the next episode!

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, The Vampires Have My Attention Now! 1 July 2012

Reader: I loved it! Michele Drier has done it again: She's got a winner on her hands with SNAP: New Talent, the second SNAP book in the Kandesky vampire series. Judging by the way New Talent ends, there will be a third installment, and I can't wait! I don't even like the whole vampire thing, particularly, but I like Drier's fast-paced, multi-layered and emotionally satisfying treatment of this centuries-old vampire family.

As in the first book of this series, Maxie Gwenoch, the savvy editor of an international gossip magazine, called, naturally, SNAP, finds herself caught between two worlds that each exert a compelling pull on her life and her emotions, due in no small part to her romantic liaison with a glimmeringly sexy adult vampire, John-Louis Kandesky--yes, of those Kandeskys!

I liked this second installment even more than the first because Drier seems to have hit her stride with excellent pacing, more nuanced concepts of similarity and difference between human and vampire and really fascinating world building that makes logical sense against a most creatively realized vampire history. The characters are smart and sophisticated and the plot stays thick to the last sentence, where it positively startles, alarms and deliciously beckons with a temptation one cannot resist. Bring on that third book, because this five-star installment has left me breathless with anticipation.

Hop on and enjoy this fast-paced novel!! You don't need to be a lover of the vampire genre to enjoy the story and characters in Drier's sequel. Once you start reading, you won't want to put it down as the book takes you from country to country with lots of action and thrills in each place. Definitely a great read!!
