I was about to order a Manfrotto (legs only) tripod for considerably more than the cost of this Slik Pro700 after spending hours searching online, reading reviews and perusing through several camera stores. To be honest I was only considering a Manfrotto or Giotto, but a friend suggested Slik were equally as good and after finding numerous glowing reviews I ordered the 700DX from Cameraking via Amazon marketplace.

Two days later the tripod arrived - fabulously packaged. I have to say I was more than pleased with the result. Fully extended it reaches towards 7ft tall - suited to the tallest of tall photographers. The construction is absolutely solid; the legs easily exteneded or collapsed and the 4 way pan and tilt head wonderful to use. There is a quick release/attach plate for the camera - so no more messing about screwing/unscrewing when you need to handle the camera on its own. Two inbuilt spirit levels ensure your shot is square-on when needed. The tripod isn't lightweight as this would be a compromise to its sturdiness - but on the other hand the AMT alloy used helps to make this sturdy tripod as light as possible. The top section of the legs are protected by thick rubber type black sleeves.

Inside the box I was suprised to find it came supplied with a zip up nylon shoulder bag (which the more expensive makes don't supply), making it easy to carry the tripod around with you.

All in all I heartily recommend this for anyone looking to buy a serious amature / semi-professional type tripod without having to break the bank. I promise you won't be disappointed. Top value for money and easily on par with the best of the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tripod, Very Sturdy 18 Mar 2010
By _andy
Like the previous reviewer I was also looking at the Manfrotto tripods when I came across this. So far the tripod has been fantastic, its well built and very sturdy. It may be a little heavy for travelling any distance but it depends on how far you have to carry it. If you are looking for lightweight I would suggest looking elsewhere. Having said that, I recently took this tripod across to the US (it fitted in my case diagonally) and was very pleased with the performance. The legs are well built and the locks on the legs feel tight and solid. The central column is smooth to operate and locks tightly. The height of the unit is superb, I used this at the Grand Canyon and was able to put the tripod into some lower lying positions and dips near the cliff edges whilst still allowing me to look through the viewfinder without stooping.

The tripod came with a pan and tilt head which I found to be very good for starters although I have since replaced it with a Manfrotto MN222 Grip head.

Overall, this tripod is solid, sturdy and very tall, a bargain at the current price and a pleasure to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 28 May 2011

Not suitable for carrying all day long as it weights 3.5kgs, but this beast is very very sturdy, well put together and oozes quality. I use for home studio and location shots where its only carried for approx 10-20min at a time and its OK. Twin spirit levels are handy. Supplied case appears flimsy, but works well as long as you look after it. Would I but another? Yes, and would happily pay more for it, its a steal compared to others brands.
