Product Description

Slik Pro 700DX Tripod With Pan and Tilt Head Black Using an aerospace alloy made of aluminum, magnesium, and titanium, the Slik Pro 700DX Tripod With Pan and Tilt Head (Black) has a strength-to-weight ratio 40% greater than comparable tripods in its class. It has an all-metal pan and tilt head that uses a circular quick-release plate for a more intuitive way to attach your camera. Whether it's strength, fit and finish, or refinement of operation, the Pro 700DX is a thoroughly professional photography tool. The rapid-type center column cannot rotate accidentally, and the lever locks work securely with a minimum of movement. The Pro 700DX has foam-padded upper segments to ease carrying on your shoulder and working in the cold, and its simple angled rubber leg tips give a firm footing. I was about to order a Manfrotto (legs only) tripod for considerably more than the cost of this Slik Pro700 after spending hours searching online, reading reviews and perusing through several camera stores. To be honest I was only considering a Manfrotto or Giotto, but a friend suggested Slik were equally as good and after finding numerous glowing reviews I ordered the 700DX from Cameraking via Amazon marketplace.

Two days later the tripod arrived - fabulously packaged. I have to say I was more than pleased with the result. Fully extended it reaches towards 7ft tall - suited to the tallest of tall photographers. The construction is absolutely solid; the legs easily exteneded or collapsed and the 4 way pan and tilt head wonderful to use. There is a quick release/attach plate for the camera - so no more messing about screwing/unscrewing when you need to handle the camera on its own. Two inbuilt spirit levels ensure your shot is square-on when needed. The tripod isn't lightweight as this would be a compromise to its sturdiness - but on the other hand the AMT alloy used helps to make this sturdy tripod as light as possible. The top section of the legs are protected by thick rubber type black sleeves.

Inside the box I was suprised to find it came supplied with a zip up nylon shoulder bag (which the more expensive makes don't supply), making it easy to carry the tripod around with you.

All in all I heartily recommend this for anyone looking to buy a serious amature / semi-professional type tripod without having to break the bank. I promise you won't be disappointed. Top value for money and easily on par with the best of the market.

Like the previous reviewer I was also looking at the Manfrotto tripods when I came across this. So far the tripod has been fantastic, its well built and very sturdy. It may be a little heavy for travelling any distance but it depends on how far you have to carry it. If you are looking for lightweight I would suggest looking elsewhere. Having said that, I recently took this tripod across to the US (it fitted in my case diagonally) and was very pleased with the performance. The legs are well built and the locks on the legs feel tight and solid. The central column is smooth to operate and locks tightly. The height of the unit is superb, I used this at the Grand Canyon and was able to put the tripod into some lower lying positions and dips near the cliff edges whilst still allowing me to look through the viewfinder without stooping.

The tripod came with a pan and tilt head which I found to be very good for starters although I have since replaced it with a Manfrotto MN222 Grip head.

Overall, this tripod is solid, sturdy and very tall, a bargain at the current price and a pleasure to use.

Not suitable for carrying all day long as it weights 3.5kgs, but this beast is very very sturdy, well put together and oozes quality. I use for home studio and location shots where its only carried for approx 10-20min at a time and its OK. Twin spirit levels are handy. Supplied case appears flimsy, but works well as long as you look after it. Would I but another? Yes, and would happily pay more for it, its a steal compared to others brands.

After reading some of the previous reviews, I was a little apprehensive that this might be a bit on the heavy side. Not so... it strikes a great balance between wight and stability. My camera feels really secure on here and I love the design and construction of this tripod. I'm well pleased with the 700DX. Thank you Amazon.

If you are looking for a tripod to carry around, this is probably not the best choice due to its weight.
But if you are looking for something to have at home or at your studio and will only need to carry it around some times this is perfect.
The tripod's head is extremely easy to use and it comes with a small bubble to help you see if the tripod is completely straight. The only minor "issue" is that the screw that attaches to the camera is a little bit small but I believe you can buy a bigger one.
The legs are very strong and the tripod won't move a bit if you don't want to. The height is also an attractive feature, specially if you want to shoot from above.

If you don't want a carbon fiber tripod, I totally recommend this. You even have a bag to carry the tripod. Excellent delivery conditions and timing.

I bought this for my husband who is very active in photography. He was thrilled and is very pleased to have a sturdy, practical, strong and height adjustable tripod. He is 6 foot tall and has recently had an operation for a slipped disc in his neck and the fact that this tripod can extend to eye level is a great bonus. Definitely a product worth recommending.

I have had a cheap and cheerful tripod which I bought ages ago off the auction site.it did the job but thats where is ends I was like the previous reviewers going to purchase a Manfrotto but a friend had the Slik and after reading the reviews and seeing the price decided on buying this one and what a difference it makes no more wobbling and it is just so easy to use and money well worth spent it is a tad on the heavy side but it suits me fine .The quality is here in the handling of the pan and tilt and the lock in the legs this is so sturdy really rock solid and very adaptable for all types of terrain and I love the inverted way to take close up low shots
If you are thinking about a new tripod you could do a lot worse considering this one.
