Book Description

30 Nov 2011
2342 CE Dishonorably discharged from the Hunter Division and banished for crimes she did not commit, Silver struggles to come to terms with her new prison-like surroundings: a segregated area of the city called the Fringe District, populated by murderers, thieves and rapists. Starving, and desperate for money, she reluctantly accepts the Police Division's invitation to enroll in a covert Bounty Hunter program: an initiative devised to infiltrate the criminal underworld of the Fringers, and to force the very worst warrant dodging law-breakers to meet their fate—death. Unfortunately, Silver doesn't realize that the Police Division is about to up the ante. They need more than little snippets of information and arrests—they need someone to pull the trigger. They need an executioner. --------------------------------- SILVER: Acheron is the first book (a 40,000 word novella) in a 10-book series featuring the character of Ella ‘Silver’ Cross. Set more than 300yrs in the future, the Silver Series takes place in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian world where humans are a species on the brink of extinction. No longer at the top of the food chain, humans are preyed upon by the Chimera—genetic mutants that outnumber humankind 25:1. And Silver is a Hunter—the best in the city. She’ll risk her life in the pursuit of a human resurgence on Earth. The question is: will you join her? JOIN THE FIGHT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 1st book 8 Jan 2012
By R.J.K. TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Set in a brutal apocalyptic world in 2342 where most of Humanity has been wiped out, only a few Humans survived and live in a battered world divided into sections. You have the Sentinel District, the 2nd reclamation district, the Fringe District, the out district and the unknown territories.

The Sentinel District is where the rich people live, they have running water, food, real homes, governed and policed by The Hunter Division.

The Fringe district is where everyone else lives, people that aren't welcome in the sentinel, killers, rapists, criminals, they face a daily battle to survive and face a bleak future.

The 2nd reclamation district is, once wiped free of monsters, going to be an add on to the overflowing sentinel district.

One problem, the 2nd reclamation district is overrun by Chimera, they are the monsters of this story and they outnumber the humans 25:1. The Chimera were humans once, born in the aftermath of a nuclear war, but after centuries of genetic mutations their humanity has been lost and they are now hunted and killed and are the main food source for the humans.

Enter Silver, a member of the Hunter Division and all round hardass. She is on assignment one day and comes across a human living amongst the chimera, and they haven't touched her, which Silver finds strange because the Chimera are vicious meat eaters and eat humans.

Silver decides that she is going to smuggle this human into the fringe district with the help of a few members of her team, Red, and Alex. Unfortunately she gets caught and thrown into a cell and then banished to the fringe division and this is where the story really begins.

This book is amazing considering that the author is new. She writes with a skill and expertise of seasoned authors which really did surprise me.

Silver is a fantastic lead character, you are thrown straight into her story and the ride doesn't stop until the last page.

This storyline could go on for many books and i really hope that it does, i desperately want to read more and my only criticism of the whole book was that it wasn't long enough. It leaves you standing on a knife-edge and when i read the final word on the page i actually shouted out Noooo. A mark of a good book indeed.

If you love J.R Ward, Gena Showalter, Keri Arthur, Kresley Cole, Kelley Armstong, Nalini Singh, to name but a few of my favourites, you are going to absolutely love this.

Its paranormal without vampires or Demons and its science fiction without being geeky, its absolutely brilliant and i am going to sit and read it again, and i don't do that very often.

Hurry up and release the next one please Keira :0)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Series 7 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It took me awhile to get into this series because of the violence. Yes, there are worse things on tv but I needed to digest it and ask myself - will this story work without the violence? Probably not. The world that has been created for these characters stems from an era where all good seems to be lost.

What little there is appears to be packaged in bruised humans. And when I say bruised, I mean physically and emotionally. This author has taken the basic human need of interaction and built it into a fascinating world by itself.

The author's writing style is extremely smooth. For a story in a world that does not exist, there are no timeline errors and no character mishaps. I definitely look forward to reading more of her work.

Would I recommend this read? Oh yes, definitely. This series is definitely worth to be made into a tv series if not movie.

Overall assessment:
Content: 5/5
Editing: 5/5
Formatting: 5/5
Pacing: 5/5
Offensive content?: Violence, strong language so R for theme and content.

Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author through Orangeberry Book Tours. I did not receive any payment in exchange for this review nor was I obliged to write a positive one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic World Building 5 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback
Silver: Acheron is one of 'those' books for me - the world-building is top-class, and I'm hard-stretched to think of any recent read that has done it better. Nuclear war is the cause of the apocalypse that has pushed human beings to the brink of extinction. The prologue didn't really work for me, I found it a little choppy and difficult to immerse myself in - but once the story itself started, I was completed hooked.....

When Ella 'Silver' Cross is banished to the Fringe District after saving a naked, seemingly deranged woman from the Chimera, she finds herself expelled from the life she has always known and living alongside the dregs of society. The Fringe District is a place where evil freely flourishes, and Silver: Acheron pulls no punches in describing just how low humanity can stoop when pushed to the knife-edge of survival. Slavery, degradation of women, drug abuse - the Fringe District is a disturbing place, but the descriptions and writing makes you really feel as if you are there.

The series is started perfectly in that although secrets are alluded to, there is so much 'taster' for the rest of the story that it's impossible to not crave more. The writing is edge-of-your-seat thrilling - as Silver finds and begins to befriend the woman she seemingly rescued from the Chimera, Ms. Telford drops tantalising tasters of the revelations that are to come.

I also have to mention the artwork in the book - it's truly chilling and all through the story I had the Chimera pictured in my mind - which made the book come to life even more.

I can't wait to read more of this world, and find out just what those secrets are....
