Shure’s Music Phone Adapter MPA-3C is the only adapter of the bunch to take a bigger-picture approach to iPhone headphone port modification. Rather than just connecting your old earphones to the iPhone MPA-3C adds to them an in-line microphone and control button box which is found at one end of its cable. In so doing it converts your earphones into a complete alternative to the iPhone Stereo Headset included by Apple in every iPhone box capable of interrupting audio immediately to handle phone calls. Because the microphone needs to be near your mouth Shure’s extension cable is nearly three feet long—six or seven times longer than the ones in other adapters—and includes a lapel clip to keep the microphone at neck level. It’s best suited to earphones such as Shure’s that split off at around your neck level into two separate cables. Shure also includes a silver button on back to let you do the same things the iPhone Stereo Headset’s button can do namely take or end calls play or pause music and skip forward one track at a time with a double button press. The button works exactly as expected: single clicks start or finish calls and switch between paused and playing modes for audio. Quick double-clicks skip forward a track in the current collection of playing songs. The bulbous button box on MPA-3C is easier to click than the neat but small version on Apple’s Headset. Good, but fragile,

I was under the impression that Shure produced decent-sounding, robust items. That seems to be the case with their headphones I have, but the MPA adapter falls somewhat short on the second point. After 3 months the connection in the plug went, rendering them basically useless. Not impressed.

Brought these thinking Shure would mean good quality, seems mine only work half the time, if the plug moves while iphone is in my pocket headphones continue to work but speaker and button don't. Bit confusing, will return and hope replacement is better.

Disappointing product from Shure,

I've been a fan of Shure earphones for a few years, so when I got an iPhone, I treated myself to some new headphones as well. However, the standard iPhone headphones come with an inline mic, and I'd like this feature available for Shure headphones - lost count of the amount of time I've missed calls because my Shure earphones had blocked out the noise ;-)
This adapter seemed like the perfect solution. Unfortunately, the mic is feeble. It's not a patch on just about any hands free adapter I've used, let alone the one that comes with the iPhone. Everyone I've talked to while using it has complained of not hearing me. the only way it sounds normal is if I hold the mic part of the adapter right in front of my mouth, about 2 inches away! Not the way a hands free kit should be, in my opinion. In summary - don't buy. I'm sure this product will be improved, as Shure are an excellent company, but for now, this is a very weak offering.
