5.0 out of 5 stars A thriller for modern times! 13 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Was up till late last night finishing this as didn't want to put it down! This is quite a modern thriller with its themes of voyeurism and modern technology plays a big part. The heroine Christa and her best friend live in a big old house that has been burgled but this is nothing compared to what happens the next night! I found this to be the best part of the book-loved the character of Nicola and this reminded me of one of those horrible nightmares where someone is chasing you and you keep hiding trying to get away from them but they just keep coming! This is a fast paced thriller and i agree it would make a great movie. Looking forward to more of the same by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Freaky in an Exhibitionist Way 12 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you love unexpected plot twists, heinous villains, creepy men lurking around every corner, look over your shoulder. Someone could be watching you! Christa and Nicola are two best friends planning a simple birthday party. Things quickly spiral out of hand when they head out in the middle of an ice storm. Confusion reigns and Nicola finds herself alone with dangerous and ruthless men who force her into silence.

Gruesome and bloody scenarios abound. This author's imagination knows no limit. Nicola must remain quiet about what she saw. Later, an innocent man is framed, leaving a trail of blood in the snow. Unable to protect all their friends, Nicola and Christa face down the enemy alone with a burlesque shower scene as distraction.

If you don't try to look for inconsistencies, the story will have your head turning this way and that. The pacing varied from heart pounding to indecisively frustrating. I can't comment on the editing because I read a draft and I hope some of the confusing places were addressed. A fun read, sure to keep you amazed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read! 15 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Shiver Sweet is the newest in H.C. Elliston's line of suspense novels. It is definitely worth reading.

Christa and Nicola live in a remote location far from other houses and a huge snowstorm comes through town, complicating matters further. They are separated when Christa goes to look for her missing daughter, and Nicola gets the surprise of her life. Things aren't what they appear. You never know who's watching.

Honestly, this started off a little slow for me because I had a hard time connecting with Christa at the very beginning. However, I absolutely loved Nicola, and her chapters kept me eagerly reading along. About 30% through, Christa and I started clicking as well and then I could not put it down.

The author kept upping the tension throughout this story, and things just got better and better as I went along. A true romantic at heart, I liked to see the little love story played out in this book as well. Everything blended together to lead up to the perfect ending.

I thought the plot was well-constructed and the bad guys creepy. Overall, a good read that I recommend.
