Teenage slacker Cliff Spab (Dorff) enters a local convenience store in the suburbs to buy some beer and is taken hostage along with Wendy (Witherspoon) for 36 days. But he gets a lot more than just a six-pack, because with a gun to his head and national television capturing Spab's nihilistic attitude, people not only begin listening to this disgruntled youth, but create a cult phenomenon out of his "So F

5.0 out of 5 stars SFW, 15 Jul 2003
This review is from: SFW [VHS] [1995] (VHS Tape)
This is a great film about a convenience store hostage situation that is broadcast nationally,
making some of the hostages national hero's. SFW focuses on the chaos that ensues when you
give fame and fortune to disaffected youth who not only don't really care, but don't even want it
(Hence the title which will become clear when you watch the film). Steven Dorff and Reese
Witherspoon are perfect in the lead roles, allowing young people or those who were once young
to identify with the situations. (Tobey Maguire of Spiderman also appears in an early cameo as a stoned teenager)

A gem of a film I discovered on tv one night. Great premise, well presented.

3.0 out of 5 stars An open view of todays fickle society, 18 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: SFW [VHS] [1995] (VHS Tape)
This film begins well but lacks the get up and go that you need to keep interested. The opening scene leads you to believe that there would have been more emphasis on the actual hostage experience. Stephen Dorff and Reece Witherspoon are both great in this film as the lead roles. This film was in all a disappointment, the only highlight was that Stephen Dorff was the lead character.
