Sonic R is a racing game along the lines of Mario Karts. It's fast-paced and fun and great for children.
There are three modes of play: Grand Prix mode where you race against your opponents in a championship by winning a series of races; Time Attack mode where you not only race against time but also improve your points by popping a plethora of balloons along the way; and finally multi-player mode where you can play a split-screen race from two to four players.
You choose to play one of five characters from Sonic and his friends such as Tails, Knuckles and Amy as well as Sonics old adversary Dr Robotnik. Each has different skills, varying from their maximum speed, turning ability, jumping etc.
The tracks are quite open and it is fairly easy to lose your way but there are no fixed rules to sticking a the route so you can rejoin at any time. However, this coupled with the fast pace of the race can prove slightly disorientating.
Players can pick up different skills when shooting around the track such as speed-ups etc. With its bright colours, wacky characters and fast action Sonic R is ideal for children and big children alike. -- Kate Johns

I already own this game and, being a huge sonic fan, think this is brillient!
The music is probably the best, the vocals and lyrics are ones that will set in your mind.
Gameplay is unusual but good, you have to collect emerald(s) and 5 coins in each track. 6 unlockable characters and 1 unlockable course. Each character has individual skills like jump, fly glide, boosts.
Graphics could be better, but suit the game fine. lots of shortcuts and secrects to find. Mutiplayer is fun as well, espcially as you know about shortcuts and characters!
Have fun with sonic and the gang and listening to the music to help motavate you!
Overall, absoulutly fab!

Sonic R is a new way to look at Sonic. Racing! In this review I'll cover: Graphics, Playability, Lastability, sound and age group.
Graphics: Compared to modern graphics, they are a bit outdated, but for a 6 year old game, you can't really argue. The characters aren't exactly blocky, but aren't too sharp. The tracks and backgrounds are very detailed and look a lot better than the characters.
Playability: 4 relatively long race tracks, and 1 secret one. Lots of secret characters to unlock, 6 to be exact. 3 play modes: Grand Prix, Time Attack: Normal, Reverse, Tag, and Get 5 Ballons, And 2 player: Race and Get 5 Balloons. Each mode contains records to beat and keep. All the Emeralds from the original games to collect, and you can save your place to continue later.
Lasability: With so many things to collect and unlock, it takes a very long time to complete, but once you've got it all, unless you have a friend to play with, it gets a bit tedious after a while.
Sound: Each character has a few different sound effects for themsleves, but the thing that's really great is the music. There are 6 songs in the game, one for each track and the main theme tune that can be used in levels when you use a certain secret character.
Age group: As long as you can find the keys, you can play, in other words: 3-as old as you like.
Overall: Although a good game with friends, on your own, it can get boring, so, if you have a family that likes this sort of game, this is the game for you.

Sonic R is unbelievably fun! It has to be the most under-rated Sonic game i have ever played. And, yes, it IS better than Mario Kart!
Graphics: 9/10
Nice graphics, considering how old the game is. For 1998, they are excelent! The courses fade in beautifully and are very well landscaped. Panoramic backgrounds, realistic objects and the stars coming out of Super Sonic wont disapoint!
Gameplay: 10/10
Brilliant! Runs smoothly and quickly. The great thing is that in this game you can pretty much run over the whole landscape, and there are HUNDREDS of shortcuts and different routes. There are different ways to explore the courses such as racing on them backwards in the time attack mode and playing "tag" with the computer controlled characters
Audio: 10/10
Ok, i know the lyrics are corny. But if you dont like them you can listen to the great instrumentals instead. The EXCELLENT soundFX are mostly from sonic 3 (CLASSIC!)
Replayability: 10/10
Although you can finnish the game in twenty minutes (really!), it will take you ages to find all the emeralds, coins, characters and shortcuts. This is THE GAME to get if your going to play 2-player, i never get tired of it!
Fun Factor: 10/10
This game is downright fun. I love playing as the eggbot and shooting missiles at other characters!
Overall: 10/10
This game is the Best! Buy it!!!!! (no i havent been hired by amazon to say that, i really mean it it!)

I like this game very much.I havn't know it can be played on PC. I had play it on SEGA SATURN.It is very fun and very beautiful.
