4.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER mega drive compilation? 26 Feb 2009
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This, believe it or not, is not the first mega drive compilation, it is not the second or even the third. This is the fourth (two on PS2 and one on PSP). So, is another compilation a bad thing? Well no, not really, this does include some new titles.
Highlights: Well, lets be honest, the chance to play ANY sonic game ever created for the mega drive (including sonic spinball, sonic 3D and Sonic and Knuckles) is a REAL thrill. They were fast, featured some great tunes and had some real exciting levels (for me Ice cap zone in Sonic 3 will remain a favourite).
All the steets of rage games and all the golden axe games are on this too. This means that there are some top quality two player fighting titles which will really pull you back time and time again.
Then of course there are the phantasy star games (1,2,3 and 4 which were some of the best RPGs on mega drive) and shining force, Ecco the dolphin 1 and 2 and others.
Thankfully, sega learnt its lesson in the first compilation and as a result, graphics and gameplay have been left well alone however, one welcome change is the ability to save your game ANYWHERE and at ANYTIME.
Some games that probably won't appeal as much are E-swat (a scrolling shooter), fatal labyrinth (mazes with lots of enemies) and alien storm was surprisingly poor when playing it recently especially when compared to the other games.
So why buy this? This basically contains some of the best games of an era, it is easily packed with hundreds of hours play and has more two player games than an arcade. None of it has been tampered with and it contains some extras (although some will notice that all the extras are the same as those in the PSP and PS2 version of the compilation, a similar game with less titles).

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Collection! 6 April 2009
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I was really happy to see this game available, as I loved so many of the games when I was little when I played on my Mega Drive, which sadly no longer works! My favourite game was Streets of Rage, so happy to see all three versions present on the game. Same with Golden Axe and all the Sonic games. Just as much fun now as they were then. I agree with the reviews that say if you never played the games when you were younger you might not get what all the fuss is about, but if you did, it is an essential buy! Many hours of fun and nostalgia!

4.0 out of 5 stars Going back in time - with a game controller 1 Mar 2009
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Isn't time travel fun? So much media for it all ranging from cars to phone boxes and more, yet none of them can quite compare to the simple time travel of playing an old video game from your childhood.

A compilation pack of old games on the X-Box 360, I thought it would never happen due to the Market there is online. But this was a nice surprise to learn of. So on with the review:

This is a compilaton package of 49 games, the majority of them from the Mega Drive which was released back in the early 90s and eventually retired in the mid 90s just before the Sega Saturn was released.
Back in the early the SNES and the Mega Drive were the two consoles that survived and kept on surviving despite the competition from competitors who promised advanced gaming, they soon disappeared. And Mario and Sonic were the icons of the time.

Now it's 2009, the Playstation One has come and gone after a successful run, the Nintendo 64 and Gamecube had their time, Sega no longer develop consoles, with the Dreamcast's short life almost ten years ago. The PS2 is nearing it's lifespan after a long run and the Nintendo Wii, the X-Box 360 and the PS3 are the main consoles on the market with the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP being the top handhelds at this time, with the DS still on top.
Gaming has come a long way since the Mega Drive and SNES days.

There have been compilation packs before on the PS2, first X-Box and the Gamecube. This pack contains most of the games that appeared on the Mega Collection and Mega Collection Plus with a few differences. The list above should give an idea of what's on the disc.

So I'll just explain details:

The menu is done in an old Mark One Mega Drive style with the games themselves shown as carts.

5.0 out of 5 stars buy it for shining force 2 27 Jun 2011
By ben
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
At this precise moment, you can buy shining force 2 for less than 7 pounds. Anyone who doesn't already own this collection must do so. Think of it as owning one of the best rpg's of all time with 39 other games as a bonus. Honestly, get over the fact that the characters continue to walk even in bed and you'll see what i'm talking about. Having a grown man shouting 'come on Peter, you can do it' to a 2d phoenix is a sight to behold.
This game is up there with fallout 3 and resident evil 4 in my opinion as the greatest games of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgic heaven for any gamer 22 Aug 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
For anyone who grew up in the 80s & 90s, Sonic was THE thing. This compilation encases all of the Sonic games, including Sonic Spinball & some other 'spin-off' games. It also features the likes of Ecco the Dolphin, Flicky, Columns, Bonanza Brothers, Alex Kidd & many, many more. If you're a bit of an achievement hunter, the majority of these are fairly easy to get & include achievements such as 'Get Rich - Alex Kidd: Collect 1,000 in currency', 'Getting Chicks - Flicky: Collect 80,000 points' & 'Critique - View all artwork' This is a great buy, although it may make you feel old!!!
