Product Description

Chromehounds brings squad-based multiplayer mech combat exclusively to the Xbox 360 for the first time ever. The war of the future has begun with three superpower nations fighting for world domination. Commanding giant metal war machines called Hounds, players must manage their tower of heavy artillery through giant war zones while engaging in cooperative squad-based tactics, and fighting intense battles against other real-time players via Xbox Live. Strategic planning, quick reflexes and team-based communication are the key to winning the Chromehounds battle. Players will have the ability to customize their massive mechanized Hounds with a huge array of available options to create a walking arsenal of firepower. Chromehounds offers players six different types of vehicles to choose from, each excelling in a different aspect of battle: Scout, Soldier, Sniper, Defender, Heavy Gunner and Tactics Commander. In multiplayer combat modes players can build large platoons and take to the battlefield in squads of six for head-to-head battles with opposing squads, conquering enemy territory to advance towards world domination. Single player action is also available so players can sharpen their tactics and create a Hound that becomes their ultimate combat war vehicle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Mech Game Around 21 July 2006
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I remember being on the XBox LIVE Beta testing and being glued to my TV playing Mech Assault, I love mech games. They released a sequel , but never really captured that unique Mech feel like the first. Steel Battalion was an amazing game with the biggest controller in history. I still have it and it's a vast and monstrous beast of a game. when I say I'm a mech fan, I mean it.

Now, we have chromehounds. Must admit I was a bit sceptical about this one.I downloaded the demo and this didn't really sell me. I bought the game and here's what I think :-

Graphics - the Xbox 360's first mech game does have some very nice textures and draw distance. I wouldn't say they're amazing, but they suffice to impress with the framerate never dropping. The smoke and explosion effects are very cool. The game interface and presentation is quite good. 6/10

Gameplay - the mechs controls are quite good, but some do take a bit of tweaking to understand how to move them when you've turned around and the front is now the back. Can lead to some embarrassing driving , crashing, blowing up. "Pimping" your mech is a great feature and is not cosmetic in any way. The vast possibilities make every game you play seem like a freak show of what people can do with a little time and experimentation. Takes a bit of time to work it out, but the game has enough depth and intuitiveness to make it stand out. If you are expecting fast movement and fast combat you may not like this game. It's slow to build up , but compensates with being a game where working as a team is your weapon.8/10

Offline Play - I've seen the reviews in magazines and these are understandable. The game is slow, single player is fragile, but still good fun. This is where you learn about the game and earn equipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, Great for squad tactics 27 Mar. 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game i have had now for nearly 2 weeks and have barely stopped playing it at first the game seems slow but given that its mech based warfare it is forgivable as the mechs in this game are based on what i think are more realistic than those in previouse games like armored core and Z.O.E the story mode is very small basically only giving you a tutorial for each hound type the real game is on xbox live and my is it great

i would only recomend this game though if you have xbox live or plan on getting it shortly after purchase but given that the story mode is pretty minimal i still give this 5 stars for online play it redeems itself

I had hours of fun playing this game online. It's got to be one of my favourite games that I've played, it was something different from all the previous mech games I've played. Multiplayer gets 5/5 for me

Sadly, as of January 2010 the servers were taken offline and you are limited to playing only offline. To be honest, the single player campaign gets 1/5. Doesn't seem to be a memorable or good plot to the story, and you're limited to the number of parts to customize your mech.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yep!!! 27 Nov. 2013

This or the Armored core series?.... Hmm.... THIS!!! No brainer there. This game is a quality mech-combat format. It takes you through the training stages beautifully. It has an excellent customization system (once you've won all the extra bits and pieces you need to customize with) and each of the game's scenarios are well thought out, and have story lines that get you involved in the campaigns. There are a lovely selection of weapons to pick from, and each campaign is 'supposed' to be specific to a combat/mech type (i.e. sniper, heavy gunner, scout... etc...) but once you play through each part you can replay the scenario with your custom mech, so a heavy gunner campaign requiring you to hit a target at range might be tricky as a heavy gunner, but a snip if you use sniper gear instead. So, you can get better ratings by re-playing sections tailored to your own preferences.
Why have I only given it 4 stars? Because, as with a lot of xbox 360 games, unless you play xbox live (which I hate) you cannot access the special extra's such as unique weapons, armor, etc...
Other than this, it's a fine piece of gaming fun with a good bit of longevity to it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and even better on the live system 20 July 2006
By R. Cruz
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I must admit that i was a bit shying away from the title...after much passing back over....i finally rented it and was really suprised that it was extremly enjoyable. Best of all was the online play.... you can play little missions to build up your online cash.... And then join a clan..... i got my butt wipped by some expirienced gamers, but it was the best online expirience.... TIP beat the game in solo then go online and play for a while maybe an 1 for 2 months on the online single missions to build up you cash and then join a clan.... at the end it was a great expirience and i would recomend this at the amazon price...a must buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its dead but not forgotten 19 Jan. 2015
By bagels
This is a game that was unique. It was able to let your creative sides come to work when building mechs and captured a new feeling of a game. The online is where the game was and stood out and sadly the servers are closed limiting the game. Its avgood cheap pick up these days but unfortunatly its like every game where online is best once the servers close its just a disk that has great potential that will never be shown again. Those who were still after a cheap game tho its fun its tactical and there are around 25 missions to complete. Id say its for fans of modern armoured core games like 5 and verdict day.

This game's a bit old now so the online play has gone, but I still enjoyed playing it.
If you can get it cheap it's well worth a go.
