Book Description

6 Mar 2008
In the time when gods and men walked the earth along with demons, the Chalice of Fire, the symbol of peace for Ulster, is stolen from the Red Branch by Bricriu Poisontongue. A small band of Seekers sets out to recover and return the Chalice to the Red Branch to restore peace to the Ulster kingdom. The Seekers are a group of two elves, Bern and Lorges; Cumac, the son of Cucullen, the greatest Red Branch warrior; Fedelm of the Sidhe; Tarin, the Swordwanderer; and the wizard-druid, Seanchan. Together they must make their way through the world brought as Maliman, the evil wizard, uses his powers to stop them as he seeks the Chalice himself to bend its magic to his will. The Seekers battle their way through the creatures of darkness that threaten to conquer the world. But they are determined to bring light back from darkness and restore the land that has fallen into ruin and decay with the theft of the Chalice. An epic tale that brings to mind the works of J.R.R.Tolkien, David Gemmell, and R.A. Salvatore, "Seekers of the Chalice" is the first book of a trilogy that explores the ongoing battle between good and evil in a land that is teetering on darkness.

3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive but not bad... 14 Oct 2008
By Jan M. Barlow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Since there are only 2 reviews for this book, and both are the complete opposite, I think one needs to be made that is in the middle. I just finished this book in a day and half. It was a pretty good read, very interesting, but too repetitive. I understand that Mr. Cullen is trying to write in a certain classic style.... but how many times do our heroes have to come across, goblins, hobgoblins, sumaires, black baggots.... etc??? The Irish folklore, and world building is what's most interesting, and to be honest I don't come across many fantasy books in this vein. Cecelia Dart-Thornton is the only one that comes to mind as of late(her books are FABULOUS, BTW).
Those readers who are looking for quest fantasy, you should be happy with this book... but the quest just doesn't get very far...Those of you looking for Tolkien style archetypes, look no further, even though the characters are a bit cliché. However, those of you who are looking for a book rich with utter detail you will be disappointed. It's a quick read, not To Green Angel Tower.
The 2nd installment is set for Feb. '09, and I definitely will buy it then and keep reading...
1.0 out of 5 stars Found in Airport Store and I wish I left it there 28 Feb 2013

I love George RR Martin. I love RA Salvatore.

Seekers of the Chalice was absolute drivel. I was craving something fulfilling and engrossing and all I got was a whole lot of made up names and no story. It felt like reading an encyclopedic entry about a long-dead society. I even put the book away for a couple of years and tried it again. I can't even get past the prologue.

Can I get my money back?
1.0 out of 5 stars Uninteresting and formulaic 22 May 2012
By thereadinghouse - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Horrible. The characters were stereotypical and shallow. The plot was slow moving and boring. There were no surprises in the character or plot development to give life to the story. I can't see this appealing to anyone who appreciates a rich and complicated fantasy world.
