Review

Clark writes with real passion, and brings his many years as a lecturer into play. (...) Each part is well titled so its content is immediately recognisable. In particular providing web site addresses within the text should make this book appealing to all readers. Excellent use of current referencing is used alongside the historical perspective, making this a viable asset to theological studies, industrial chaplaincy training, and all individuals who believe the future of the church is in serving the kingdom and seeing a way to live it on earth. --Cate Adams, IMAgenda, February 2006.

This book is a key text for all concerned about the urgent next steps to allow the church to be the servant of the 'kingdom community'. Reading David's clear, practical, challenging and immensely hopeful writing, gave me the hope that fellow MSEs would use it to inform many of their discussions, to enable them to reflect on their diaconal roles and get on with Breaking the Mould. --Deirdre Palk, CHRISM, April 2006.

The book is well researched and covers a wide range of issues for anyone wishing to explore the nature of the Church in the twenty-first century, whilst at the same time offering a helpful approach to those continuing their exploration of the relationship between lay and ordained, presbyteral and diaconal ministry. Discussion on the need to find new expressions of church is prevalent currently. This book helpfully roots these discussions in a theological, sociological and educational context. --Margaret Crompton, Methodist Deacon serving in the East Cardiff Ecumenical Mission Area, Epworth Review, July 2006.

Product Description

SCM Studyguide to Biblical Hermeneutics" offers entry-level undergraduates a framework for interpreting the Bible. The book goes beyond offering guidance on how to do exegesis, and is intended as a practical tool to help readers develop good interpretative strategies for themselves. As such it features pedagogical tools such as Try it Out boxes to assist students to develop a tested and thought - through overall interpretative strategy of their own. Market-tested to ensure a good coverage of the typical topics found on a standard level-one hermeneutics course, this "Studyguide" is designed as a practical and comprehensive companion to coursework, be that within a secular institution, a theological institution or within Church reading groups. The authors set out from the beginning to make clear that interpretation of the Bible is largely affected by the reader's own situation and therefore, the text is designed to guide the reader through the myriad of accepted methods of interpretation, no matter what the reader's own perspective or situation may be.

A wonderful book to have if you are a first time essay writer, good ideas and well set out. So pleased that I purchased it. I first had it in hard back, but mislaid it. The Kindle version is fantastic so easy to retrace your steps.
