I got the Slingbox Classic to enable me to watch TV when away from home. A simple set up to hook it up to the TV/Internet, an easy to use installation wizard on my laptop and voila, I was watching TV over my home network, and later over the internet.
It uses the full bandwith of your home network to give a pretty good quality stream at home. Over the internet, it is a bit more compressed, but that is to be expected as the average 256kbps broadband upload speed isn't that great. Keep the player window smaller than fullscreen and you can't argue with being able to watch UK TV in another country!
I did have a problem with my Classic, when a firmware update went awry and the box froze in the reset process. However, one call to the Very helpful Slingmedia Support line and a new box was winging it's way to me in exchange for my old one.
I might add that I had approached expansys for the RMA support initially (as that was where I had purchased it), but I would have had to pay for the postage to them and been without a Singbox in the meantime. However, Slingmedia couriered the replacement to me and collected the old one, free of charge. A point to note should the unlikely happen!
