This worked... managed to salvage data from my old sata hard drive... if you don't have a power adapter for this just pop open the case and plug it in to a existing molex connector inside.

Bought this for a simple job - to remove some pics from my dads hard drive. The transformer that came with this item clearly wasn't right as within a few seconds I could smell burning and found the HDD was cooked. I swapped the board over on the HDD and tried again with a different lead like this that I bought from another company and it worked okay. Not impressed.

When I got this I pluged it in to a BD-Rom drive; it all seemed to work, until a few minutes later when the video stoped. The adapter had burnt out and stoped working, when I picked it up it was hot. Taking a look at the plug i noticed that it had no fuse, I'm sure if it did have one it would of blown. I had another adapter that does the same job and using it the drive worked. I do not recommend this device as it could be a fire risk.

Wasn't what i was looking for
It does the job, but only when i found a power adapter for it.. Only buy if you already own a SATA power adapter
