An excellent overview 23 Dec 2009
By H. Mann
Format:Paperback
I was looking for a book that gave a good overview of the SAP implementation process, my knowledge being somewhat patchy. This book very much filled that need, the information was clearly presented in very digestible chapters, and was pitched at the right level for me (I am not a systems expert), it was easy to read just the chapters of interest. Also each chapter had good revision questions and answers. The difference between good and bad implementations can easily be months of pain and millions of dollars so it is well worth learning from experienced practitioners who are not trying to sell you their services. So even if (in fact perhaps especially if!) you have consultants helping you it is worth having a detached view to refer to, if only to provide reassurance that you are not doing anything out of the ordinary. Inevitably the book did not address all my questions, for example I would have liked to read more about the linkage between business process and SAP design, and more about organisational design/roles and how these relate to SAP. Also the second half of the book is really quite technical. But overall a very good book, well worth a read if you are embarking on the SAP journey.

This is the SAP book YOU want 5 Oct 2011
By dobbs - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
SAP implementation unleashed is the closest thing I've seen to covering all the relevant aspects of an SAP implementation project. George and team bring a wealth of knowledge to bear. They start with the premise that knowing SAP is about more than knowing technology and more than knowing how to implement a system for running a business. Instead it's about managing a combination of things- business, technology and project management roadmaps that TOGETHER will set you on the road to doing SAP right.

To kick things off, they set the stage with the facts. SAP projects are complex change enablers, necessarily expensive, but ultimately necessary (for reasons the authors explore). After working through some of the best material I've read on establishing business vision and tying in technology to make it happen, the authors then cover number crunching, staffing considerations, managing information, and capturing knowledge throughout the implementation process. Different sections of the book also cover the variety of tasks needed to make YOU a key player - from the idea that SAP might be a better way to run the business to actually managing all the changes and people and technologies required to get it in. They do a fantastic job on the project manager side of the house and cover many of the topics that get less coverage than they deserve: testing, tech installs, NetWeaver and other development tools, operations and the many steps needed before go live. IMHO, for the reader who wants to know what SAP implementations are really all about this is the book for you AND your entire project team.
