The device arrived a couple of days ago and we've had the opportunity to use it a couple of times already. It is very easy to use although I fear we may lose some bits if we're not careful to keep them all together.

It basically just works.

I have added two customer photos with extra notes. One, to show what is in the package I received from Amazon today (9-Jul-2008) and the other to show the cables connected to a drive.

On the Sandberg site and in the User Guide it states that the USB-Disk Link only works on a Windows PC. I have successful used this Link on a Mac, to connect an Apple IDE hard drive (Mac OS Standard format) to an Intel MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.4) and a Power Mac G4 [AGP] (running OS 9.2.2). I powered up the drive, plugged it in to the USB-2 port (a USB-1 port on the G4) and after 30 seconds (45s on the G4) the drive appeared on my Finder Desktop.

Hope this is of help.

This worked great then the large casing came loose within a few weeks then wires came loose, to their credit I was given a prompt refund, I guess they are having problems as I wasn't offered a replacement which I would probably have accepted and tried to strengthen myself as this is such a great inexpensive idea.
Before it broke I had managed to retrieve all data from a crashed computer hard drive so I want to give 5 stars but due to quality can only muster the four. If your computer crashes I would still recommend you buy this, buy borrow beg or steal another computer with more empty space available than yours is and retrieve all your data from your crashed hard drive ( they are very easy to remove ) before you try wasting money on useless software that promises to fix everything then you will lose everything.
Then with everything stored elsewhere safely you can then re-format the crashed computer, reinstall windows on your crashed computer then transfer everything back using USB memory sticks, or that 1 TG external HD you really should buy, you will be very happy as you thought all those photos etc that you always meant to backup but never got around to it were gone forever, and they probably will be if you let an 'expert' loose on your crashed computer before you do all of the above

I have just received my second one of these. Whatever I plug in isn't recognised, the power adapter doesn't even power a 2.5" drive, basically it just doesn't work. The first one worked ok, I tried 2.5" and 3.5" IDE drives and all worked ok, but the thing fell apart on about the 3rd disk I tried. It still worked, but without the plastic casing was unlikely to last long so sent it for replacement (see above). I may give it one more go by replacing this one; wouldn't have bothered but for the other happy reviewers.

I found this product quite simple and easy to use. I used it with Windows and with Linux machines and it worked fine with both, the external drive just appeared as a new device on the machine.

Some of the other reviews mention that it is a bit flimsy but I think it is perfectly adequate for the job I want it to do. I wouldn't use it as a permanent method of attaching a disk drive but for getting data off a hard drive in a dead machine or for wiping a disk before disposing of a machine it works fine. Much easier than removing the drive from the machine and fitting it into a working machine.

I have kept the Amazon box that it was mailed in because once you have hacked your way through the plastic display packaging it is pretty hard to fit all the bits back in securely.

Very handy tool which I've used several times to access all three different types of HDDs. The build quality is great. My only gripe is that the cables are very cumbersome....but hey for 17quid you can't go wrong.

This was a great idea but sadly the build quality let it down. The casing fell apart so now I have cables and a circuit board!
Good idea when you find yourself having to recover information from old hard drives, easier than having to install the drive as a slave, but sadly the build quality let it down.
