'An invaluable reference tool for those in need of style counsel.' (Toro Magazine)

'Definitely more couture than prêt-a-porter…an elegantly overblown presentation, extensively and beautifully illustrated and bound to make you chuck half your clothes out in shame. Form meets function and air kisses.' (Joseph Galliano, Gay Times)

'A beautfiully presented, visual and insightful book that is to be seen on the most stylish coffee tables…definitive…pages brimming with beautiful visuals.' (International Textiles)

'Part coffee-table book, part future-fashion bible…stunning.' (Independent on Sunday)

'Should be on every stylish bookshelf.'(Independent)

'Simply gorgeous…as covetable as a Lanvin shift…Sample isn’t just another beautifully reproduced coffee table tome filled with fantastical fashion images (although it’s admittedly all that as well) but more of a sculptural object in its own right…positively dazzling…a must-have tome.' (Sunday Herald)

'There are still some things in this often over-marketed and globally-accessible world we devotes call fashion that can cause your heart to flutter. One is the new fashion book from publishers Phaidon…To paraphrase Marilyn Monroe: it shakes you, it quakes you, it makes you go goosepimply all over…excellently edited…Even if you’re not a fashion fiend this book is a must…[Sample] makes it clear that fashion is about so much more than clothes.' (Edwina Ing-Chambers, Financial Times)

'The book makes for intriguing eye candy.' (Women’s Wear Daily)

'This book focuses on the talents shaping the future of fashion…an eye-catching volume.' (DNR)

'Fashion nuts won’t want to miss a thing. Lush close-ups of New York team Proenza Schouler’s beading-drenched satin bustier dresses fill one page, Belgian Raf Simons’s Loaded images of Arab-esque face coverings the next…some of these designers may end up as mere flashes in the pan; others will be superstars. I smell a series.' (Toronto Globe and Mail)

'An invaluable reference tool for those in need of style counsel.' (Toro (Canada))

'Phaidon Press, no slouch in the special-effects department, has entered the fray with SAMPLE: 100 Fashion Designers, 010 Curators, designed by the doyenne of high-concept book design, Julie Hasting…SAMPLE is a masterpiece of production profligacy.' (Paper Magazine)

'Simply said, SAMPLE is fabulous.' (Nylon)

'Beauty and brains are a winning combination. This fall, you can have both — right on top of your coffee table. Curated by 10 style superstars, including Alexander McQueen, SAMPLE (Phaidon) is a glossy encyclopedia of 100 innovative designers.' (7x7 Magazine)

'Lovers of fashion will find much to ponder in this excellent overview of the next age of creators.' (Publishers Weekly)

'I’m obsessed with my latest purchase, an incredible fashion anthology called SAMPLE.'(Monique Meloche, Lucky Magazine)

'1,000 illustrations, displaying the work of 100 often very obscure, often very gifted, and usually astonishingly young designers. By its very nature this compilation accentuates the avant-garde and the over-the-top; there’s a lot of energy and creativity in these pages.' (The Atlantic Monthly)

Defintely worth buying if you are interested in fashion. The cover alone makes the book stand out and feel special then there are the photographs and and the drawings which are interesting as you don't often get to see final sketched drawings. The layout of the book is stunning and the size of the book really shows off the photographs. There is not alot of text but there is enough imformation if you want to find out more about the designers. It is one of the best fashion books i've seen. It's simply a beautiful book

A look into the world of modern fashion design 22 Jan. 2006
By Jane Burson - Published on
Format: Hardcover
This book is absolutely fabulous, there's no other way to say it. Whether you're looking for a gift for someone who simply loves fashion, or are someone who loves fabric and the art of fabric manipulation (which is generaly called clothing), this tome is an excellent resource for information on up-and-coming fashion and designers. As a textiles & apparel major I find this book to be a great source of inspiration, but the layout, the wealth of large beautiful photos, and the artistic design of the book itself would make it a great coffee table book. The book is also a great bargain on Amazon, I have seen it for sale in several stores for upwards of $90. If I could give it more than five stars I would!

Secret Treasure 24 Jan. 2008
By Aleksandra - Published on
Format: Paperback
I accidentally discovered this book in my college's library and just had to have my own copy! I bought the paperback version and it's a lot more comfortable and manageable than the hardcover (which has various page widths that are hard to turn and looks chopped up), and costs much less too! Some of the designers featured are very bizarre and unpractical but still very inspirational!

The book not only features clothing from international designers from all sorts of various places (including Asia, South America, etc) but it also features jewelry, shoes, accessories, and ...spear designs. Definitely a must have.

decoration 9 Jan. 2007
By Julia V. Noronha - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
It presents recent collections from interesting designers from all over the world. It serves as a good introduction to some of them, so afterwards you can get to know each one's collection better. Good reviews, very nice images. And apart from that, a very nice book to use as a decoration for your office. : )

disappointed by cover 17 Sept. 2008
By B. Edwards - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have seen this book in stores and love it, however when i ordered it it arrived without the beautiful cover its famous for and which i expected from the product description it would have. The content, i presume, is still the same and therefore makes it a great reference book but i was very disappointed it didn't have the beautiful white pleated paper cover.
stylish exquisite 11 Sept. 2010
By Chris Reinewald - Published on
Format: Paperback
