2.0 out of 5 stars very poor contrast but talking functions are Ok 11 May 2011
Verified Purchase
Do not be misled by the photograph - although the numbers are clear on this watch the hands are very hard to see for someone with low vision. The hands have very poor contrast against the dark face. Personally I find the actual watch face is useless because of this strange design fault.

The watch arrived working and pre-set to UK time. There are four buttons to operate it. The two on the right (at 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock) make it easy to make the watch speak time (e.g. "The time is 2.45 p.m.) and date (e.g. "Today is Wednesday May 11 2011"). It automaticlly checks the time using the radio signal at 3 a.m. each day and there is a button function to do this check manually if necessary.

The watch has a single daily alarm which can be set and turned on or off fairly easily. The alarm noise is a distinctive buzzer which is good, I can't stand those talking alarm clocks with cockerel noises !

The two buttons on the left (at 8 o'clock and 10 o'clock) are for changing settings. They are almost flush with the case and have small dimples to make them easier to press with a pen or paperclip.

Settings on the watch are:
- Set daily alarm time
- Turn daily alarm on/off
- Set hourly chime on/off
- Change the radio signal source for international travel
- Manually set the time
- Set the second hand to 12

Changing settings is easy. When not changing settings the 10 o'clock button tells whether the alarm is on or off, and the 8 o'clock button does a manual time check with the radio signal (or lets you know if you are not getting the radio signal) which are two useful functions.

The watch is quite thick (about 1 cm) and chunky and the wristband is lightweight metal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but quite fiddly 12 Sep 2011
I bought this watch for a friend of mine who has just gone blind in his late teens.
The watch looks good and does what it says on the label - the time/date/setting announcements are clear (if a bit annoying), but the settings - in particular the process to align the hands with the voice announcements - are extremely fiddly and have so far defeated half a dozen people.
It would be considerably easier to be able to adjust the hands manually rather than electronically.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous 27 Aug 2011
By Bruce
Very impressed with the quick delivery. The watch is superb, very lightweight and voice can be heard clearly. Strap was too big but took to jewellers and they made shorter. I will enjoy wearing it. Would recommend to anyone without any hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased customer 15 July 2011
By Pierre
Delightful product, I'm tickled pink with it.

The speaking time (& date) function is great, even for good sighted folk like me; it's really very practical, especially when it's dark; or just for fun!. The fact of auto time-keeping from the time signal, self adjustment between summer & winter time, & other functions, including the alarm, makes it a real winner at this, or a much higher price. Nice clear analogue face too.

The only downside I foresee is changing the battery. It sounds like a real hassle; hope it's a long life battery!

Interesting item though the clasp is a bit tricky.Price better than
expected for a solar version of an atomic watch.
