I bought this battery because I wanted a decent battery, but not a genuine one because of the price. A genuine Apple one wasn't really an option for my ancient MacBook that has been around and has the scars to prove it :) I thought this one would be a good compromise because it's a specific brand although not genuine Apple, and thus had a bit more credibility to me than a no-name brand, while still being very cheap.
I'm glad I was right. The battery charged up fine, while it's meant to be 5600 mAh, Coconutbattery only reports it as 5200 mAh (same as the original battery) but that might be because its battery monitoring is limited to the maximum capacity of a genuine battery. It seems to last a long time, I haven't yet ran it down to zero but I was demoing a website for 2 hours running OS X Lion and it was down to about 65%, which is pretty good for a 2007 MacBook. I recently got this MacBook second-hand so I don't know how long it lasted when the original battery was new but this is more than I expected. Indicated battery life is between 3.5 and 5 hours depending on CPU load and screen brightness and I haven't calibrated it yet. The battery also has a working temperature sensor (visible through the free Coconutbattery app), even when charging for a long time it didn't get above 31 degrees Celcius (confirmed by touch) so I feel confident about the safety, although I never leave laptops charging unattended anyway, even brand new ones.
The fit isn't great, the edges of the plastic stick out a bit at the bottom, however the battery doesn't move around in its slot as was reported about some no-name batteries. It sits very snugly. It's just the edges of the plastic being not completely flush with the bottom of the laptop. But you can buy 4 of these for the (official retail) price of a genuine Apple one and that's including shipping so I'll still give it 5 stars. Also it's for an old MacBook that no longer looks as new, and who looks at the bottom while they're working? It really doesn't matter to me.
It even has the 5 battery capacity lights, same as the original, which seem to work the same way as the real thing. The cover on the inside (the side that goes into the laptop) is plastic instead of metal on the real thing and the foot is not rubberized as it is on the original (and white, not gray as shown in the picture). Also not worth deducting points for in my view. It stands very stable on the four feet including the battery one.
I'm happy that I got a well-working battery replacement for an old laptop at such a low price and that's all I wanted.
