If you are fed up with sanctimonious self-help books with idealistic, impractical advice and want to improve your relationships both at home and at work, then this book is for you. Full of Paul's trademark wit and warmth, "S.U.M.O your Relationships" follows up the earlier SUMO wisdom with practical strategies for improving your understanding of relationships and your communication skills. If you keep coming up against the same issues in your relationships, if you sometimes wonder what planet other people are from, or if you just want to be a happier, more effective person, then it's time for you to SUMO. I defy anyone not to find something useful within it's pages. You may think that you are reading it to understand others, but along the SUMO journey you'll learn a lot about yourself too.

Having recently finished this book and whilst ordering some more copies for friends, I have to confess to being flabbergasted to read one of the reviews on this book. SUMO Your Relationships is PACKED full of practical ideas and insights - it's hard to read more than a couple of pages without reaching out for your notebook (that the author encourages you to use in order to capture your thoughts). Paul McGee's honesty and wisdom oozes from the pages. I particularly liked his emphasis on recognising that we're to look as much at ourselves as we are the other person, in order to building better relationships.

My favourite chapters were "A Bit About the Beach ball" - which builds on one of his original SUMO principles, "Arouse Your Attitude" which contains a hilarious but also very powerful story about how Paul dealt with a client of his called Mark and "Give Yourself VIP treatment". As for the SUMO characters - I defy anyone not to find themselves thinking of countless people they know as they read about the seven SUMO characters, including the Whinger, the Hijacker and the Happy. Perhaps the author's greatest knack though is his ability to have you smiling one moment and then squirming the next as you begin to identify yourself in one of the characters.

If you've read the predecessor to this book, SUMO, you'll love this one -although be prepared for an even meatier read - Paul has crammed loads of great content into this one. If you're new to the SUMO philosophy, then be prepared for thought provoking, honest, yet often amusing insights into the challenging world of dealing with people.

I found this book so refreshing and enjoyable that I still find myself smiling when I recall some of the chapters.
I felt 'hooked'from page 1, and for me that normally is a good sign. In this case, it was a great sign indeed. Paul McGee's ability to connect with the reader from the very beginning and make you really 'enjoy the ride' stands out through the passion, conviction and simplicity that each page radiates.
Every once in a while it is good to be reminded of how amazing we are inside, and if along with that you can be given tools to learn more about yourself, have a laugh and feel uplifted all at once... well, I'm up for it. This is part of what this book did for me.
I loved the way humour is interwoven with some issues I always considered deep when it comes to relationships. It helped me to see how there can be more relaxed views and attitudes that can actually contribute a great deal towards a much happier you and much happier relationships!
My overall feeling after reading the book was, like I said, a much happier and more determined 'me'. It was great to see how a lot of healthy principles can be applied to real situations, as it can be quite challenging at times. Paul McGee seems to somehow always be able to find that 'silver lightning' in every situation and help you find it in your own life as well. Great material.
