I have used this item twice now since purchasing it a few weeks ago and therefore what follows are my first impressions:-

Pros:
a)It has the feel of a quality item and appears well built.
b)It is very easy to assemble (although as mentioned by other reviewers take care to get the tubes the right way round or otherwise you will be in a bit of a pickle!)
c)Amazingly quiet when running.
d)The bag also feels substantial and is easy to empty.
e)Produces an excellent fine mulch - much better than I expected.
f)Being a budget machine you have to change tubes from suction to blowing. Ryobi have however made this a simple task.
g)Easy to store - one tube slips into the other and can then stand in a corner of your garage or shed.

Cons:
a)Despite claims that this machine has special technology to ensure an easy start, beware that this is a pure sales gimmick. I found this to be one of the hardest two stoke engines I have ever had to start. Hopefully it will become easier as it runs in - time will tell!
b)Although reasonably capable for domestic use, it is not as powerful as one might have thought from reading the manufacturer's description. Therefore do not expect the performance of the machines you see commercial gardeners and local authorities using. These do after all cost about three or four times the price of this one and the old adage "you get what you pay for" certainly rings true here.
c)Although relatively easy to use it can become quite tiring after a while when using as a blower. If you use your right hand, as recommended in the instructions, the air intake is located next to your body. This means your clothes are sucked in towards the machine and block the access grill with the result the engine loses power.

This does just what I wanted. It is a super blower but even better as a vacuum. It sucks up wet leaves easily but leaves the stones. Sometimes a wee bit slow to start (need to pull the string lots of times) but always has started. One thing to watch - you can assemble the two halves of the blower tube the wrong way round and it is a pig to sort out. Do it right first time!
Well worth the money and a super unit.

Received this product believing it to be the answer to my substantial leaf problem.

It would not start despite following the instructions to the letter and trying for 2 hours - Easy Start - I don't think so!

I have Ryobi equipment for my all my gardening needs, so thought this would be a reliable and reasonably priced piece of equipment, however its a shocker. Easy start it is not, and the configuration of the machine and shoulder strap leave nothing to the imagination.

I have had mine 4 months, worked OK when you could get it started, but to start it took 10 or so pulls. After 4 months it has died and has had I would say average usage, once a week or so. Ryobi technical support advice didn't help, B&Q won't accept it back even though its got a 2 yr warranty. B&Q and Ryobi continue to pass me from pillar to post, but neither of them seem to want to help, just pass the book. B&Q's policy is interesting, because they are not allowed petrol on site they can't actually test and petrol products you return, work that one out !!!

The Ryobi will be going to the skip on the next visit, and I won't buy another Ryobi product again.

This thing is an absolute beast of a blower and a great vacuum too. Started 2nd pull after assembly out of the box and it runs a lot quieter than I expected for a 2 stroke engine. Found it a bit heavy after 10 mins of continuous use but my strimmer shoulder strap soon sorted that out.

Coming from a large electric blower /vac it's a lot more convenient. No more extension cables. BUT. One thing I never realised is that you have to do a fair bit of assembly and add a separate tube to the side each time you change from blower to vac mode. No big deal really, only 2 screws, but something to be aware of.

All in all very pleased ( even more so after saving 35% on the price against anywhere else)

Oh and yes. As the previous reviewer noted. Make sure that you place the first part of the blower tube onto the machine BEFORE you assemble the 2 tubes together. It only goes on one way and you can end up with the second tube upside down if you're not careful (the blower now has an upturned end that's not catered for in the instruction manual)

I bought a Ryobi blower vac from Toolstop.co.uk for £99 delivered to replace a Partner petrol blower that I have had for 8 years. It arrived fast enough but its VERY very hard to start. From new it took 30 pulls then stalled. A few more pulls and it eventually started. Certainly not "Easy Start" as advertised. Starting hot its a few really really fast tugs to get this to start. Unless you are strong then you will have no chance of starting this. Ryobi technical support advise to pull the starter really fast- easier said than done but this does work. Its cheaply made and despite the 2 year warranty I can't see it lasting long. Very awkward to use with the vacuum bag and difficult to empty the bag as you have to disconnect the tube and rotate it 90 degrees.
Toolstop.co.uk don't want to know that they sold me something faulty and just refer me to Ryobi. Paying via Amazon payments offers me no protection either.

This is not fit for purpose - Buy something else even if you do see this for £99. Only consolation is that Ryobi do answer emails fast and called me when asked to do so.

Update: After this review toolstop.co.uk did call me about a refund but it should not take a negative review and input from the manufacturer for a retailer to have some customer service.
