4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all 22 May 2008
I feared the worst after reading reviews about the shredder but I have just spent two hours shredding a mixture of hard and soft vegetation with a minimum of problems. It certainly looks suitable for my needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars pleasantly surprised 2 Sep 2007
Having already ordered my shredder before reading the posted reviews I was expecting major disappointment. Happily after putting half a willow tree through the machine over the weekend I find myself very pleased with it. I suffered three blockages, all of soft material, mostly leaves which can build up inside the hopper, and all easily cleared by opening the hopper. No, large forked branches will not go through the feed slot, but you cut them off the tree so cut them again and they will! Remember this is not a professional tree surgeons diesel powered chipper. If shredding masses of soft stuff follow it at regular intervals with harder waste, the one pulls the other through! Compared to the Makita professional shredder I hired some time ago and which I spent all day unblocking, the Ryobi performed adequately, produced bag after bag of small chips and represents good value to my mind.

1.0 out of 5 stars Completely Useless 26 April 2007
This shredder is completely useless for just about every type of garden waste except for bamboo or garden cane. The funnel has a letterbox type of slit that you're expected to post garden waste through however twigs and sticks don't grow in striaght lines so you have to shred your garden waste by hand before you can actually get the refuse into the shredder. Anything straight like bamboo shreds like a dream but the Ryobi designers have obviously never tested this shredder in a real garden with regular shaped garden waste. When choosing your shredder make sure the funnel is wide enough for waste to pass into it. I feel cheated by Ryobi.
