5.0 out of 5 stars Like all the expand-it addons - works a treat! 6 April 2011
By Dale A. Haines VINE VOICE
I ordered one of these as a tryout since an ordinary hedge trimmer alone was more than this was. As I already had the power unit I thought - go for it - so I did.
I haven't been disappointed.
The articulation feature is a god-send if, like me you have stupidly high hedges belonging to a property next door which is rented so no one give a damn how they look.
I do!
This device is superb value for money.
I always give it a good spray with either 3-in-1 or WD40 before, during and after use. That keeps it running smoothly.
One piece of advice I would give is to always run your power unit for a while to warm it up before attaching the trimmer (after powering off first of course!)
That way the engine isn't strained as much as it would be trying to start from cold with the attachment already added.

5.0 out of 5 stars Articulating hedge trimmer AHF04 23 Jun 2011
I received the trimmer very quickly after ordering.
On unpacking, I read the instructions, fitted it to my Ryobi strimmer power unit. Oiled where indicated and started the engine.
The hedge cutter worked smoothly. I then started to cut a privet hedge about 10 meters long 3.5 meters high and 2 meters wide, this was cut very well.
The unit worked better than I expected and would reccomend it to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hedge trimmer 15 Mar 2011
We purchased our Ryobi Expand-It Hedge Trimmer from G&M Supplies through an Amazon package. Unfortunately our first Hedge Trimmer would not operate properly on the Ryobi power head. After e-mailing G&M I was advised it was a problem they had encountered before, and to try a liberal spray of WD40 on the blades. This did not solve the problem, but after a further e-mail a replacement was despatched immediately and works perfectly. I cannot praise the prompt and friendly action of the company enough, it was brilliant! The only problem is that I now have no excuse for not trimming the hedges!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother 30 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
I already have a Bosch electric (corded) hedge trimmer but have very high and deep hedges. I bought this hedge attachment for my Ryobi trimmer and hoped that it would allow me to reach the tops of the hedge without getting out a working platform. I'm also really good at slicing through the cable of my electric trimmer! It's performance is VERY disappointing for the following reasons:-
1) Cumbersome - very heavy to manipulate and very awkward to use as it is unbalanced
3) Inefficient/ineffective - very poor cutting - compared to my Bosch electric hedge cutter it's a total wuss. Can only cope with fine new growth.
Wish I'd saved my money and will continue to use my corded hedge trimmers despite having to erect/constantly move a heavy working platform and faff about with a cable - still the easier option compared with this. Will be confined to the darkest reaches of the garage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cut your Bush 12 Jan 2012

Bought several products from this range as an all in one option works well for harder to reach areas but due to combined weight still prefer to use normal petrol hedge cutter for baulk of work, but this is invaluable for further reach.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ryobi Articulating hedge trimmer 5 July 2011

It arrived in just a couple of days and works. However on the end of an extension pole it does not have much power and so not so good for trimming my Leylandii tree hedge, need something a bit more powerful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well - only tested once 7 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase
I have used this for a couple of hours now and it works well, especially with the extra extender poles you can get.

It feels pretty sturdy, but no idea how it will last long term - hopefully if I can get a few seasons out of it, it will hav epaid for itself.

I've not used "proper" equipment by Stihl etc but as a part time reluctant gardener, I am very pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for a great weed wacker 17 May 2012
By KimL
Verified Purchase
After purchasing a great Ryobi electric start Arnold Schwarzenegger weed whacker, it was logical to buy this extension as I had done as much damage to the brambles that 20 years of neglected garden can produce, next was the growth that were once hedges. OK the Leylandii trees were up to 50 feet so this wasn't the tool to tackle them (the chain saw is in order) but the rest of the green growth were about to get a similar hammering that the brambles got a couple of weeks earlier. It arrived in a innocuousness package concealing the destructive beast contained within!!! A simple click, lock and start and I was away - - Scissor hands was nothing compared to what I achieved in the next 3 hours - the garden increased in size by over 2 meters is all directions and I had a bonfire to equal the great fire of London. It is also a great tool for dissuading Jehovah witness from visiting (or maybe it was the hysterical laughing and bloodshot eyes!) One small point, this tool of mass destruction arrives in the box and then in a plastic bag with a danger to suffocation warning on the bag - very safety conscious for an implement that could decapitate in a flash.

This does what it says but you'll struggle to hold it over your head for any length of time due to the weight when combined with a strimmer unit. Read more

Doesn't work! Seems the spindle is too small for the socket and just spins without turning the blades. This is the second one that will go back.
