Very disappointing, other than its a good blower. I have used the Ryobi RBV2400VP on four occasions to deal with dead leaves on patio and its performance gets worse each time with longer and longer delays because:
The Shaft blocks when sucking leaves -this means dismantling shaft -time consuming and dirty but fairly easy.
Motor keeps cutting out, often after reassembling the shaft, one then has to wait for it to come back on. It has a mind of its own!
Lever that switches from blow to suck keeps sticking, when it does not even brute force will move it - this mean more dismantling, very difficult to clear and very time consuming.
In 'suck' mode the bag sprays fine dirt on one's trousers and if the leaves are wet, bad luck you will quickly have a big wet patch on your trousers!

Our initiation with this tool came late into autumn. We hadn't been around when the leaves first fell and thus by the time we got to them they were plentyful and wet.

The Ryobi had little problem sucking them up. It's powerful (albeit noisy) and comes with enough attachments to deal wonderfully with the sizeable chunk of dead foliage in our garden.

Two minor complaints - the shoulder strap is a bit flimsy. It does the job, but when full of leaves it can be quite heavy. A better grade strap would be nice as well a clearer indication of where and how it's supposed to attach to the actual vac.

Second the bag that collects the mulched leaves is a little light-weight. To be fair, we had little choice but to use it with wet leaves, which will have added to the weight inside the bag.

Even so, the material the bag is made of does not feel particularly heavy duty. Which is a shame because it lets down the otherwise excellent product.

UPDATE: a year later and after using this product every time (about 6 - 8 occassions now) we needed to clean up the leaves in our garden (~20m x 10m), we've come to the conclusion than it is easier for us to rake the leaves and put them into a bucket by hand.

The Ryobi certainly does it's job very well, however the problems (compared to raking) are that:

    - before you can start, you have to sort out the electric cable. Even with an extension cord, the cable is going to snag on various corners around your garden and while this is hardly a big or hard problem, it's a niggling annoyance.

    - On a leafy day, we need to empty the bag perhaps three or four times.

A pretty awful product. Firstly it is very heavy and uncomfortable to use. Clearing out debris from the thing is a difficult process and therefore time consuming. I purchased this product six months ago and have used it three times. However on the fourth occasion it would not start. Ryobi has since collected it and after three weeks I needed to chase them and have been told that they wiil send a replacement. Currently out of stock!

Bought one of these and it worked for one day before the motor blew up. Okay I have a large garden but it really did struggle at the slightest pile of leaves and before the day was out I had the burnt smell of death followed by one non functional leaf vac. Got a refund as it was less than two days old and went back to my old compost heap. If you have a small yard with a few little bits to pick up then this would probably do. However if you have a bit of work then forget it.

This Ryobi Blower/Vac was very easy to assemble. It picks up both leaves and leaf stems with ease, it shreds quite finely so the collection bag holds holds a lot but it is easy to empty. I am very pleased with this purchase.

heavy, gets blocked very easily, wheels prevent use in borders as it gets stuck between plants, extra add on flat head absolutely useless. Wish we had never bought it

I bought this product two years ago, so this is the ideal time for a review.

Starting with the positive bits: It works relatively well and can cope with wet leaves as well as dry. The mulching capability is great. I use the leaves to mulch my flower beds for the winter.

    Now the negative bits.

It's heavy. Although it comes with strap for supporting the weight on your shoulders, the weight is not well disributed and left me with back ache after about 45 mins.

    It is very noisey.

It has a cutout switch to prevent the machine being switched on when the trunk is not attached - great, but the mechanism is so fragile that it bends out of shape if the trunk is not put back on VERY carefully. You WILL need to take th trunk off to clear obstructions every once in a while. This should have been thought through better.

The on off switch is poorly designed and is almost impossible to operate should it become stiff. Which it does after being exposed to dust from dry leaves. Your fingers slip over it rather than achieve any purchase. I have had to resort to a screw driver to turn it off on at least one occasion.

Thirdly and most importantly, the bag is just not up to the job. The material appears to rot - odd because it appears to be some kind of non woven plastic, but I have had to replace the bag twice in two years due to it simply ripping at the joins. No probs you might think - except the bag costs damn near £20.
