Format: Paperback
This is an indispensable work for all Irish or Scottish musicians, with a wealth of dance tunes taken to the New World in the mass emigration of the 19th Century. Many of these tunes died out in Ireland when dancing fell into disrepute thanks to the clergy. To rediscover so many treasures from the past through this book is such an enrichment, despite some obvious misprints. Whether or nor Francis O'Neill acknowledged this earlier work as a source, there is little doubt that it was. Some titles are different, although the music is remarkably identical, even down to Ryan's/or his printers' errors carrying through to O'Neill's work. A session musician or one who plays for their own pleasure should acquire a copy whilst it is still available, as you will find no better value anywhere! What we need now is a similar collection derived from the disapora to Canada and Australia!
