Until now, I've been happily surprised at the quality of the characterizations and plots of Harlequin romance novels. The Ruthless Italian's Inexperienced Wife does not measure up to the high quality of Ally Blake and Natalie Anderson--or even to the more prosaic and predictable Harlequin writers.
Cheryl, the female heroine, is pathetic and completely unbelievable--even for this genre. Her thinking/internal dialogue or processing, of which there is A Lot, defies reality and takes on a comic strip quality. At first I thought this might be Ms. Hollis's first novel, but no, it's not. Is there anyone in Amazon Land who has read this author and been happy with her work?
