Although not the first Inspector Wexford story Ruth Rendell wrote, Wolf to the Slaughter was, however, the first of the novelist's Inspector Wexford stories to be adapted for television back in 1987 by the former regional ITV station Television South (or TVS for short).

**THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**

An anonymous note. A straightforward case, so Detective Chief Inspector Wexford (George Baker) and his grim-faced assistant, Detective Inspector Burden (Christopher Ravenscroft), assume.
The man's name is Smith, his victim is Anita Margolis. Investigations reveal that wealthy, flighty and immoral, perhaps she had invited the crime.
After all, nice girls don't bring lovers home in the afternoon. And nice girls keep their money safe in places.
But you can't have a murder without a body. Or can you?

I watched the TV adaptation of Wolf to the Slaughter on the internet in 2011 and was really engrossed in it and I was very impressed with it as well, so much so that I decided to collect this story and the other TVS-televised Wexford stories on video last year (2012).

Originally shown on ITV in four 60-minute episodes (including advert breaks), Wolf to the Slaughter was edited into two feature-length episodes for the 1995 VHS release from MTM Enterprises and IMC Video Limited that I purchased (the first two episodes edited into one on the first video tape, and the next two episodes edited into one on the second video tape). It's such a shame that the TVS-televised Wexford stories from 1987 to 1992 aren't available on DVD due to rights issues with programming from the TVS archive, in which most of it is controlled by Disney.

I'd enjoyed this on television many years ago, but it was one of those dramas that DON'T get repeated every few months!, so I really wanted to see it again, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really clever plot, great cast, great acting.

I remember watching this Ruth Rendell Mystery back in 1990 thinking it was very good, and couldn't wait for it to be released on video and it was just as good as I remembered when I got it, there were lots of good twists and great performances from both George Baker as Chief Inspector Wexford and Christopher Ravenscroft as Inspector Burden. If your looking for a good Murder mystery..this is it.

Excellent T V Drama.

Wexford and Mike work brilliant together, also they are believable, as are all the plots.

Enjoyed each and every one of the videos.

Hope all will arrive on DVD soon.

George Baker is a nice man and a great actor.

The plots have lots of twist and turns, also surprises.
