4.0 out of 5 stars Anyone for chips? 17 April 2013
By Kirsty VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
A good little fryer that has really impressed me. I used to use a pan that heated up on the cooker, but I have to say this is much more speedy and easy to use. It's stainless steel look fits in nicely with a modern kitchen, and it sits in the corner of the kitchen without needing to be put away into a cupboard like my old one had to be.

The fryer comes in several pieces, but is so simple to use. All you have to do is fit the large pieces inside each other, add the oil and away you go!

The fryer itself is quite a large size, which makes a nice portion of fries for two people. To actually cook both portions though you do need the maximum oil the fryer holds, which works out as one of those massive 3L bottles of oil.

I have used both fresh potatoes and frozen fries, and both turned out crispy and golden with a fluffy centre while cooked at a temperature of 170 degrees.

The only reason I have not given this 5 stars is the handle design. The handle of the frying net sticks out quite far from the main body of the fryer, which you have to be very careful of when moving around the kitchen. You have to make sure the oil cools before you move the fryer back to its place, and sometimes while cleaning up you can accidentally catch your arms on it if you turn around quickly. It would have been much better if there was a button on the handle, which you could press, so when not in use the handle would fold up against the side of the fryer, as it can be a little dangerous sticking out.

Overall though you do get what you expect, so no issues at all with how it cooks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent fryer - with some downsides 14 May 2013
By Ibraar 'Le Saracen' TOP 500 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Good fryer, easy to set up - only consists of a few parts.
Looks very nice and sleek and the pan is big enough for most household needs.
Electronically, it works as it should, the oil heats up quickly and no faults as yet.

DOWNSIDES
In looks and use it is top notch, my only problems were with how it all sits together, there's no satisfying 'locking' into place, and it all 'feels' a bit cheap and rattly and lacking in size and features compared to other fryers (such as a De Longhi) which I have used.
And bear in mind, the photographs make it look bigger than it actually is, it is NOT a 'professional' fryer.

OVERALL
All in all if you're looking for a decent fryer, which has a nice pro 'looking' brushed metal finish, looks expensive, not too big, and will compliment a style of kitchen then go for it.

This is one of several very similar designs known to exist under several different familiar and established brands, most of which are established British and European names. They vary in capacity in needing either 2.2 and 3.2/3.3 litres of oil but all seem to use a basket of similar dimensions. In essence, some are wider and possibly deeper than others, hence the varying oil requirements. A minimum oil level should be maintained (2.7 litres) although a level roughly mid-way between minimum and maximum is to be preferred - a full 3-litre bottle is ideal.

All these fryers comprise 5 parts - a shell that serves to support and raise the oil container from the work surface, the oil container, its lid, the basket and a thermostatically controlled element. The temperatures available may differ slightly but will never exceed 190-195 degrees C, beyond which most domestically used oils could begin to smoke or ignite.

The thermostat on this is marked from 130 to 190 in 20 degree steps and the handbook provided suggests several different settings and timings for different foods. These are only a suggestion and you may find that you need to use a different combination of time and temperature to suit personal preferences. Generally, foods should be at room temperature before frying as chilled foods will cool the oil and they may not cook correctly. There is also a strong recommendation to drain or otherwise remove excess moisture before starting.

If you make things such as doughnuts, fritters or samosas, the ability to deep fry makes these types of foods relatively simple and they would be at least very difficult or otherwise impossible to produce with any of the air fryers.

I like the compactess of the machine BUT if you want to put it away you cannot have any oil in it as the handle has to be pushed inwards, into the oil, to get the lid on. also you cannot heat up the oilk with the lid on.

Had to have a replacement due to the basket not sitting correctly in the fryer. Also seems a little flimsy for the price.

Quite happy with this deep fat fryer apart from handle for basket which is very poor ,keeps slipping out when lifting out of the oil causing basket to tilt to one side spilling contents to one side
