A basic steam iron with simple functions and settings.

The good points; the ceramic plate glides over even the thickest fabric, denim for example, and its angled shape allows easy access into harder to reach corners. There's a large enough water tank, 350 ml, to take you through a decent pile of ironing and the steam setting is variable from no steam, continuous or a powerful, 40 g, steam shot. The electric cable from the back of the iron is central and flexible and doesn't get in the way. There's a water spray for those stubborn creases and the iron is 'self clean'. Rather reassuringly there's also a 2 year guarantee. I like the chunky handle with it's coated grip and found that nice to use.

The bad points; does have a tendency to drip and is on the light side, even when full of water, which makes it easy to push off the ironing board. The lightness of the iron also means you have to use a lot of manual pressure to press out those deep creases.

All in all the Steamglide Professional is a decent iron in this price range but I wouldn't order this model again.

I always break my irons, I go through so many that I don't really want to spend alot on them.

This was within my price range of £20 - cheap yes but the product isn't.

The iron is light, easy to use and its performance is amazing. I hate ironing, I cannot iron but this iron really does make the job alot easier.

    I highly recommend this product.

I had noted those previous reviews mentioning a certain amount of leakage; but thought that the odd little drip of water was worth the good purchase price.

However, apart from the base plate leaving 1-2 inches of extremely wet smears on your clothes, as the water fill access flips up from the front - and there is no click-closure on this area - ANY general movement of the iron results in gouts of water flying out from the front of the iron.

It was returned it for credit (which was processed very quickly, thank you) but Amazon only refunded £3.30 for the postage - leaving me £4.40 out of pocket for having purchased this total piece of trash.

I previously had an expensive, flashy iron which was the best part of £200 (I got it from the vine programme - wouldn't dream of spending that much on an iron!) That iron has recently broken and i wanted a smaller, less heavy iron that would do a reasonable job. I came across this one and I'd heard of Russell Hobbs, so decided to give it a go.

I'm really impressed. It works really well and glides across the ironing. It heats up quickly and does a good job of getting the creases out. It's plenty hot enough and the steam option works well.

There are two slightly annoying things. Firstly, the cord is really short and I have to use mine with an extension lead. Also, the plastic jug that comes with the iron to fill it is tiny! I need to use 4 lots before it's full. It's quite difficult to see how much water is actually in the iron.

I would highly recommend this iron and it's very reasonably priced.

Good size, practical iron, Not overly fancy or complicated. Does what it is meant to do. My previous Iron was a different make but I have had other electrical items from Russel Hobbs and they last for years. Hopefully this one will too.

Update 31/10/2015 My daughter ended up using this iron while she was at university and she loved it. It never gave any trouble and worked great. She is back home now but I will keep the iron for when she moves out one day, Highly recommend as this iron is now 3 years old and never given a days trouble.

I've not had any major problems with this iron. It's worked the way I expected it to. I haven't had any issues with water coming out of the base plate as mentioned in other reviews. (I live in a hard water area and always try to use distilled water in my iron, so if the water leakage is caused by limescale that might be why I haven't had any problems). The iron also seems to use water more efficiently than my previous iron, the water in the tank lasted for ages, though I did have to refill it when it stopped producing steam (see comment below).

The only issues I've had have been little niggles. There is no cord grip with the iron (which I think I've always had on other irons) so when you put the iron away you're faced with the issue of what to do with a long length of cord, I currently use a little bag tidy to keep it out of the way. The water container provided with the iron is, I think, the smallest I've ever seen, I'm not sure why it's so small unless it's a subtle way to remind you not to overfill the iron. Also when the water level gets to about a quarter in the iron it stops producing steam - unlike my previous iron which would pretty much work until the tank was empty - this could just be a problem with my individual iron. (The cord grip and water container situation could be resolved very easily by Russell Hobbs and they'd immediately have a better iron).

I don't think it irons better than any other iron I've used but I don't think it's that much worse either. If you don't think the little niggles mentioned above would bother you then it's a good basic iron, and at £22.50 (current price) I don't think it's that bad a deal either.
