I spent a few days reviewing kettles across a variety of websites and originally chose this one - Russell Hobbs Deluxe Stainless Steel Kettle. However, on delivery, we found it was polished rather than brushed steel, so returned it. We then bought this one instead.

The first time we boiled it after the initial cleaning (they advise 3 boils and discards before using for drinks), the water was tainted with a strong plastic smell, making it too unpalatable to use. However, a boil and then complete cool of a full kettle with 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda resolved it and it now makes untainted tea and coffee etc.

I'd agree that it does rock around alot when boiling, but its pretty quiet and quick. Recommended.

Firstly, I don't know why this is called a "Regency" kettle, as this implies old-fashioned to me - whereas this looks high-tech and modern. With its brushed stainless steel exterior and large window, that lights up blue when boiling - this is an attractive item for the kitchen and it works very well indeed.

Capacity is very good at 1.7 litres and the large transparent "window" makes it easy to see how much you are putting in - so you can choose the number of cups, using less water when you need it, much more easily than with kettles that are solid or only have small visible areas. This is a big plus in everyday use.

The kettle boils more quickly than previous ones I have owned (no doubt due to the "rapid boil 3 kW concealed element") and I liked the button that flips open the top so you can fill more quickly as well. I have been using this for a few weeks now and it is definitely a time-saver.

Overall I cannot fault this - great design and solid build, along with time-saving functionality, gives this 5 stars and a big recommendation from me.

I'm currently on Amazon searching for a replacement kettle. This one is now leaking around the window after only a year which is worrying as water and electricity don't mix! The lid broke after 3 months so we could only fill it through the spout. I don't seem to be the only one that has had this problem. I probably should have returned it earlier.

I'm really disappointed with this Russell Hobbs kettle. I have had a number of Russell Hobbs kettles over the years and they have always been good quality. In fact our favourite ever kettle was a Russell Hobbs and I was trying to search for the same one a year ago but couldn't find it so I bought this one. I won't turn away from the brand but this is a very poor product.

    I cannot recommend this kettle.

I had one of these nice looking kettles for 11 months and 20 days. It boiled water quickly and poured well. A little noisy, like many others. The blue light was rather cool. Sadly the top jammed and refused to open, which made the kettle unusable as you need to open the lid to fill it (the spout is too narrow to fill directly down it). So it went back. I do live in a hard water area (London) and kettles don't last well here. However, less than a year for a fairly expensive kettle is not great.

This was the nearest model to my previous Russell Hobbs kettle which I loved. Only a couple of minor points I would improve. It would feel better if it was smooth on the inside of the handle - just not a comfortable grip. Also, if the lid wasn't angled forwards it would be easier to fill it. Need to tilt the kettle back a bit when filling. Other than that it's fine.

Bought it for my elderly mother, thought it would remind her of the old "classic" RH kettle she so loved. I compared the product weight of this item with similar plastic kettles and it says it is an average of 50-100g heavier. Unfortunately when it came it proved to be too heavy for her to lift. The weight without water is far heavier than a similar plastic kettle, I have been using it instead and within a month have noticed scale build-up around the outside of the base which would point towards evidence and support of the most common complaint about this model on here … "leakage". Guess I have that fun to come! Not all that impressed with a product from a once reliable and trusted brand.

Very easy to clean, looks stylish. Only gripe would be that I like to see actual 'ml' measurements instead of 'cups' but that's just me..

Would recommend this good value and well built product - looks good and not too noisey - happy with this kettle to date.
