Poor design all round,

This review is from: Russell Hobbs 17936 Sandwich Maker (Kitchen & Home)
I found the heat pattern on the plates ended up over-toasting parts of the sandwich whilst leaving other parts limp, steamy and unpleasant. On the five occasions that I have now used my toaster, it hasnt made one decent toastie that was worth the effort of eating. A terrible terrible buy for me.
There isnt very much clearance near the hinges, so the toaster tends to push your sandwiches away as you close the toaster - meaning that even when you cut the sandwiches to size (an art in itself) they are displaced somewhat and lead inevitably to poor sandwiches. I suspect that this problem also leads to the following issue. And now, just to add insult to injury, the plastic escutcheon that holds the handle clip in place has broken (near one of the retaining screws), and the thing will never make another sandwich. This looks like poor design or poor material control - you can bet that this problem will occur on many examples of this model.

Very disappointing!,

I do not know whether or not we were unlucky and got a duff sandwich maker but it did not work properly. The heat was not distributed evenly which meant that the sandwiches did not toast properly on both sides. The bread was left soggy - yuck! We were very disappointed that it did not work correctly. We returned the item and received a full refund so that was ok. Just wish the toaster had worked properly in the first place.

I do like this, but it's a bit messy to clean. It would be better with a lift out base for cleaning. That's my only complaint.
