Manufacturer's Description

TheRussell Hobbs 17887 Fast Bake Breadmaker is a large breadmaker which can make 2 lb, 2.5 lb and 3 lb loaf sizes. It's 58 minute fast bake function means you can have a nutritional tasty loaf ready in less than an hour. The 11 programmable combinations allow you to bake including basic, French, whole wheat, cake, pizza dough and even jam. The Fast Bake Breadmaker comes equipped with 2 kneading blades for effective mixing and a better tasting loaf and also has an adjustable crust control option based on your preference of a light, medium or dark crust. The 13 hour 'delay bake' timer is the most helpful control you'll find on a breadmaker. Set your breadmaker before you go to bed and you'll wake up to aromatic baked bread the next morning.

The easy to follow LCD display make the baking experience easy and quick while watching the progress of your loaf through the large viewing window. In the event of a power failure the power cut-off memory function will remember your chosen program up to the 15 minute after the power has been cut, so there is no need to panic. So you don't have to get your hands burnt, the Fast Bake Beadmaker comes with a convenient hook for the easy removal of the kneading blades so your loaf is ready to eat. For added convenience the bread pan and kneading blades are both non stick and are dishwasher safe making cleaning up a breeze. Hints and Tips
Measurements
A few grams here or a teaspoon there can have a big effect on the taste, texture and appearance of your loaf, so unless you're an expert judge by eye, make sure you use exact measures to be spot on.

Bread pan
Your bread bakes in a non-stick bread pan. This contains the kneading paddle, a rotating shaft that drives the paddle and a handle to lift the pan out of the breadmaker. Use plastic rather than metal utensils on the non-stick surface and wash the pan by hand.

Cool wall
All of the breadmakers on test have insulated outer walls that stop the surfaces from getting too hot during baking. Nonetheless, they do get warm, so still take care around your breadmaker.

Kneading paddle
The kneading paddle mixes the ingredients in the bread pan and kneads them into dough. When you clean the pan, remove the kneading paddle as some baked bread can accumulate beneath it, which could affect the efficiency of the breadmaker.

I received this as a birthday present, replacing my old Breville. Unlike the negative reviewer, I have had perfect results virtually every time. Only once - out of about 20 loaves so far - the ingredients didn't mix properly and only half the loaf was worth eating.
I've tried all sizes of the wholemeal loaf and the dough cycle, both as directed and with slight modifications such as adding herbs to the dough cycle, mixed white and wheat flour on dough cycle (recipe given is white only), and replacing some of the flour with wheat germ in the wholemeal cycle.
I was keen to try the jam cycle (my old machine didn't have one) but it isn't really big enough for the quantity of fruit we had and possibly because we couldn't find pure pectin and couldn't follow their recipe exactly it didn't boil or set properly. For this and the lack of a wider range of recipes - particularly with regards to ingredient substitution - I only give four stars instead of 5.

Bread maker 5 Nov 2010
By Mjhall
Brought this for my wife's birthday to replace a Russell Hobbs Breadman health options that we had for two years. This one is just as good but also makes a bigger loaf. The one let down is the recipe book, its rubbish, weights are wrong and it was made on the old office photo copier. But with the old Russell Hobbs nice wipe clean cards and the internet it's no problem. Its a great bread maker at a good price, works very well and we only need to make one loaf a day now.

Recipes all wrong 17 May 2010
Purchased this breadmaker because my beloved Prima ABM6 had finally hung up its paddles. This breadmaker is the same size as the Prima making very large loaves - 3lb being the largest. I made 8 loaves in total and not one turned out perfectly. The reason for this I believe is that the ratios are all wrong i.e. salt, sugar and flour. I used fresh flour and new yeast making sure the yeast is compatiable with breadmakers. From rising too much, to collapsing on baking.
The breadmaker is solid, has twin paddles and sits on metal lugs - just like the Prima. In fact the Prima paddles and pans fit.
I contacted customer services who very polite but of no constructive help as they informed me that they did not have any one on hand to discuss the problem. They also informed me the machines are made and tested in the Far East. They suggest to me that this may be a fault in this particular machine and suggested I return it. Which I have. I have now purchased the Panasonic 255 and I have had perfect results every time.
