Product Description

Product Description

The easyfill iron from Russell Hobbs offers the latest in ironing technology to make life simple. If your aim with the ironing is to get it done and out the way as quickly and efficiently as possible then easyfill is for you. The iron has a unique, patented funnel design making it easy to fill and empty, meaning no spills or mess during or after use. Whereas most irons require filling via a front inlet, which are normally small and difficult to fill, the easyfill can be placed directly under the tap, with the end of the iron containing a unique funnel and push button valve so filling and emptying the iron is quick, easy and without unnecessary spills and mess .

I had been using one of those gigantic steam generator irons until about a year ago when it broke and I bought a cheap replacement which to be honest paled in comparison. So it was with great doubt that I tired this out as I thought nothing woulc/could compare to my steam generator iron. This is a very good alternative. It is nearly as good; the steam that comes out is very powerful and completely gets rid of creases although it is more awkward to use the steam button and iron at the same time. The clothes iron perfectly.
The iron is very light and easy to use (apart from using the steam shot). It fills right at the tap or from the jug provided. It has a large water capacity which is handy. It is also very attractive.
All in this is a far cheaper alternative to those big steam generator irons; it is obviously not as effective but it is the best iron I have ever tried, apart from the steam generator. Highly recommended.

I am the ideal customer for one of these as for most of the year I hang out my washing which means it often comes in rather dry and crumpled. This new Russell Hobbs Switched on Style Easy Fill Steam Iron is a pure pleasure to use. The soft, cushy comfortable handle makes for light work, and less strain on the arms. The water filling opening is in the base of the iron. You up turn the iron, press the switch which allows a filler hole in the funnel shaped base to take in the water. This means less likelihood of spills. If you are near a tap you could do it directly, otherwise there is a jug provided. The iron is steady when sitting on its back, the cord wraps around the base neatly for storage. The tank is generous so lasts well. Although not marketed as a 'Professional Iron' this would niftily plough through many baskets of dry laundry in no time. As usual there are useful, different settings, a big burst of extra steam available and a forward squirt for very dry materials. I loved the purple lights that come on inside when in use - they are unexpectedly cheery. Altogether a fine incentive to turn on the radio, get on with the job and to take pride in work well done.

Having used many different irons over the years the noticeable difference is the weight of the Russell Hobbs 17877. It is a lot heavier even without water in it although it's only really noticeable when lifting it up each time. Luckily it glides easily along fabrics so there's not too much of a workout and the creases quickly disappear without having to keep going over it.

The iron also lights up so it's easy to see how much is in it. It is very easy to fill whether straight from the tap or using the supplied jug. The cord is also a good length but one think I've noticed is it can get the way with the strengthened lead at the iron poking straight out not offering as much flexibility. It wraps easily around the sturdy base which helps a lot with storage.

The handle is thick and study with rubbery design so it doesn't slip with easy to use spray and burst options although I'd recommend not filling the iron up too much if planning on using the steam a lot on items hanging up as again, it is quite heavy. Overall though it is a very good iron.

So far I am really happy with my purchase although slightly disappointed that - living in London, in a rather hard water area - I will have to eventually use distilled water instead of the advertised "Straight from Tap". This "detail" should be made clearer in the description.

Household electronics are not something that particularly gets me excited and as a rule I buy whatever fits the job and is a decent price. For this reason I usually get something at the lower end of the price spectrum and never get to see what the more luxury white goods have to offer. This is to change with the Russell Hobbs Easy Fill Iron 17877, a product that shows that quality can improve even a simple iron. As soon as you pick up the Easy Fill you know that it is a decent quality, it has a good weight to it and it is very sturdy. The look is pleasant and the build quality means that everything looks like it will last. It is the little touches that you can tell make it a quality good. The wire can be wrapped around the base for storage and to stop the wire from fraying, Russell Hobbs have placed a roller ball where the wire goes into the iron. Sounds simple, but if this was not done, tugging at the wire whenever you wrapped it could have caused an accident.

Above and beyond the basic quality build are a couple of added features that work really well. There is a simple way to fill the iron from the bottom and it works brilliantly. There is also a vertical steam function that shows the heat and power of the iron, good for non iron clothing. Throw in a quality plate and you have an iron that does the job brilliantly. The only misgiving I have is that were the reservoir touches the iron there is a slight edge to the plastic that scratches a little. However, this is such a small issue with what is otherwise a really high quality iron that is far better than any other I have owned.

A very good little iron. The comment about the steam surge button being in an awkward position for right-handed users aside, this is easy to use with good steam pressure. The coating on the sole plate reduces the smoothness of the glide, but not sufficiently as to be a problem. I love the easy-fill feature and large capacity tank. I would recommend as even the 'other half' commented on its efficiency.
