Product Description

Product Description

The Russell Hobbs Steamglide Iron is styled in a striking blue colourway and boasts 2400 W of power. Its ceramic soleplate will effortlessly glide over fabrics, cutting down on ironing time. Featuring variable temperature and steam settings, plus a powerful 35 g/min steam output and 95 g shot of steam for easier ironing, the Russell Hobbs steamglide iron gives you high performance at your fingertips.

Another great time saving feature is the irons powerful vertical steaming facility, ideal for removing wrinkles from furnishing fabrics, curtains and from hanging clothes quickly and easily, without having to take them down. The fine mist water spray is perfect for dampening dry areas and the iron can even be used as a dry iron if required.

It also includes a self-clean function with anti-scale agent to prevent the build-up of scale, an anti-drip mechanism to prevent water leaking onto garments and also a 360-degree swivel cord guard for added convenience.

Useful Tips:

When using an iron at the lowest settings, please ensure that you wait until the iron reaches temperature (i.e. the light goes out). This is important to prevent the iron from leaking.

How to maintain your Russell Hobbs 15081 Steamglide Iron

To reduce scale build-up (and potential leaks), use the self-clean function at least monthly in normal water areas, more often in hard water areas. Follow the next 12 easy steps to descale your iron:

  1. You’ll need a basin or a large bowl to catch the water coming out of the soleplate.
  2. Fill the reservoir to the max mark.
  3. Set the temperature control to max, set the steam control to no steam.
  4. Sit the iron on its heel.
  5. Plug it in, and wait till the thermostat light goes out.
  6. Hold the iron over the basin or bowl, with the soleplate down.
  7. Press the self-clean button, hold it in, and gently move the iron to and fro, over the basin or bowl. Caution: keep clear of the escaping water and steam.
  8. Water and steam will wash scale and dust through the soleplate, and into the sink.
  9. When the reservoir is empty, release the self-clean button.
  10. Unplug the iron, and sit it on its heel to cool.
  11. Wipe off any moisture.
  12. Store the iron on its heel, to avoid corrosion.

I waded though loads of reviews & a common comment was about weight - either "this one is not for granny" or "because of the weight, I divide my ironing into two sessions." So,I ignored brand & colour & picked the lightest I could find. I was surprised by the size of the soleplate (much bigger than my old iron) but it makes for quicker ironing. Definitely the iron for grannies, the limp-wristed & any lady who doesn't have hands like a navvy.

It is smooth, glides well, gets rid of creases and doesn't spit out dirty water. Good value for money

I'm glad I didn't review this purchase when I bought it a year ago, because at first it seemed fine but having used it for a year I can now give a proper review of this iron: this is the worst iron I have ever bought. Don't buy it. It leaks water out of the handle (yes, strange and worrying I know) if you fill it up more than half with water and spits great puddles onto the board when you move it from ironing position to upright. Also it suddenly heats up randomly while you are ironing, so that the iron suddenly starts sticking to/burning the clothes and you get black on the plate - and on your white shirts! The steam and spray buttons start sticking if you are ironing for longer than about 30 minutes, making the ironing experience even more frustrating. Plus the lead seems quite short. And it's so lightweight that it topples over very easily.

I hate it.

Look, I'm a bloke, I'm 61 years of age. I'd never ironed before but the old one broke when my wife was in hospital. Bought this one as it was cheap and have no complaints. Seems to do the job it's designed for. In fact have enjoyed ironing so much I'm still doing it now she's out. Nice to put on some music and wind down with a relaxing new pastime.

This iron is a comfortable weight to use. The Steam Jet is highly efficient & the footplate glides with minimal effort. This iron makes a boring mindless task into a bearable one. I AM PLEASED with it!!!!!! Bonks

This iron is brilliant. It looks good and irons well. You can use ordinary water. Why would you want to pay more?

This is a lovely iron, although like one of the other reviewers comments it is thirsty, but to me the worst thing about it is the very short flex, it barely reaches from my socket which is just above the skirting to the middle of the ironing board and is certainly not long then enough left to travel the length of it !!

This is a great iron, particularly if you have loads of ironing to do as it does not make your arm ache. Have tried loads of irons and this is the best. Easy to fill and you don't spill stuff everywhere.
Good value too
