After just over 1 year's use I thought it about time I reviewed this steamer.

This steamer has probably been used to cook 5-7 different vegetables at least 3-5 times per week for a year and it has performed perfectly every time. The only problems we have encountered are the occasional vegetable in the top basket not cooking through properly but this has in the main been due to either placing too many vegetables in the lower baskets preventing the steam rising sufficiently through all baskets or not setting sufficient steam time on the timer.

Problems:- The bottoms of two of the baskets broke with the first couple of months. The baskets are in two pieces and the bases pop into locating lugs in the containers. In my opinion this is a design fault. Given the number of holes in the perspex bases it is inevitable that one or more of the bases will break through the middle at some stage in the steamers lifetime.

I have glued our containers together on several occasions and I have atached a short video of the repair so that the problem is clear.

Lastly I would warn users that the pouring spout at the side of the steamer base vents excess steam and can very easily badly scauld the hand of the unwary. We have found that by placing a wooden spatular over the pouring spout all of the steam can be directed through the containers which is useful for occasions when you need quick cook times or have overloaded the containers with vegetables.

I am about to replace this steamer and will be looking for one that has solid one-piece containers for durability . In conclusion I would say good value for money but a dissapointingly short lifetime.

This excellent, efficient steamer is a definite improvement on the previous model, in that it is easier and safer to refill without disturbing the steaming process. Also, layers can be used individually, so you don't have to worry so much about getting the right thing in the right container before you start - ideal for a muddle headed cook like me! In fact, the only complaint I have is that there are no handles on the condensation tray, so it can't be emptied. But that isn't the problem I first thought it was, because it overflows back into the water reservoir. I'm not sure I like that though, the idea of having condensation fall through the food, picking up colour, flavour and debris, then overflow back into the reservoir doesn't seem quite right to me, but it doesn't seem to get too dirty. And this does only happen on a really long steam - like the Christmas puddings, which are all wrapped up anyway!

Another plus is the size of the reservoir - this model holds enough water to allow cooking through the entire time on the dial. So no boiling dry with this one - which is what killed my last one!

One of the best aspects of the previous model is still present - the compact nature of the storage. It all fits into itself and packs neatly into a small space. This one has an even smaller footprint while cooking just as much food. In fact I managed to get an extra pudding basin in this year!

Excellent price. Large "spout" from the base making refilling and emptying easy. Dial not digital so can extend time during cooking easily. Baskets slot inside each other so less bulky when not being used. Adjustable base on baskets so can put tall items in. Can use any of the 3 baskets singly on the base. Only downside for me was it stained easily with carrot juices, but this was only inside.

After two times, this went in the box to use as a spare.. I am not new to steam cooking and have had several but this is not worth the money. The food took ages to cook, the spout for filling up the water tank is too big and open, therefore a lot of steam escapes and only lifted the wallpaper edges in my kitchen. Replaced it with a Sainsurys own, which is brilliant.

This is the third steamer I have had. All have been fine.

    One wore out!

Second one was over elaborate and the electrics went so then of course it didnt work!

This one is straightford and all you need. You dont really want all the whistles and bells, just a straightforward timed steamer.

JUST WATCH THE WATER APERTURE ON THE RIGHTHAND SIDE WHEN ITS IN USE, LOTS OF STEAM WHICH COULD SCALD YOUR ARM IF NOT CAREFUL!!

After reading all the reviews on this steamer, good and a few bad, I decided to try it myself. As there are only the two of us, the size of the containers is more than adequate. However, it did sterling work on Christmas Day when I had 12 to lunch!!!!!!

Easy to use - the instructions were child's play - it is quite a sturdy piece of equipment, very easy to empty and clean after use and, as it all stores inside itself, takes up very little room.

It steams beautifully - sometimes it needs more time than quoted in the booklet, but the results are wonderful. I'm very, very pleased with this purchase.

the jury's still out about this item.i had a Tefal Steamer before this one and although the plastic bottoms of the 3 sections were always a bit flimsy they lasted for years. This new Morphy-Richards one is a lot more solid but i seem to have difficulty stacking one section on top of the other. It's just a bit awkward. It has to be exactly in the right position and when there is boiling water and steam about a slight slip could be dangerous. So i wouldn't say don't buy it but be careful when using.
The Salton Europe people that i bought it from were fine though.Good fast service and i'd use them again for sure.
