I had expected much better from Russel Hobbs and through my own mistake of not reading the really poor reviews, I ordered this product at the £17 price tag.

I previously had a Tesco electric steamer, but it didn't contain a rice basket, which is what I was looking for. What an error to replace my trusty and well designed (and well-priced!) Tesco steamer for this poor product.

The water boils through the bottom tier and there is no way to top it up while it is cooking without lifting all the baskets. There is no water level indicator either.

The baskets are very small (luckily I am only cooking for one) and are made from a cheaper plastic. They do not fit together nicely, nor are they stackable.

I am most disappointed and wish I had sent it back when I first got it.

Was a bit worried about this as had read other reviews that weren't too positive. However, I needn't have bothered, as I have found it to be a fantastic wee machine. It holds more than enough food for a family of four (youngest of whom is 16) and cooks it fantastically well retaining all the flavours as well as the goodness. I have had no problem with the timer switch or anything else. I am really happy with my purchase and will continue to cook on this as it is far more convenient, easier to clean and much tastier than cooking on my hob.

Do you like raw chicken? Do you like uncooked rice? Do you have over an hour or two to cook every night? Do you like cleaning up spillages? Then this is the product for you.

I received this as a present for christmas, please if you are considering buying this for someone, spent an extra £20 and get another one....the recipient won't wonder what they have done wrong to receive it.

I've had to give myself time to calm down to write this review, I can't believe how this product got through safety testing. It's very dangerous as it doesn't cook the food.

The instructions say "Add 1 pint of water for 30 minutes cooking" only problem being that if you even fill it over half way the water boils over the reservoir spills everywhere and also boils the food in the first basket.

I tried cooking rice but forget about it, 30 minutes in and the rice was solid so had to boil it.

Like others I have had a problem where the timer doesn't work. The machine itself is fine for cooking for the 3 of us and the food does taste nice- shame no instructions or recipes come with the machine though. Wouldn't buy again even at the cheap price.

For the current bargain price of under £10 on Amazon, definitely worth ordering. But watch out for the timer device. It's a really flimsy clockwork spring - I'm now on my second one, having had to return the first one to Amazon as the timer wouldn't work. Unfortunately, the problem is exactly the same on the replacement one, so it's obviously a design flaw. To use this steamer, you will need to set a separate kitchen timer as well, to make sure you don't overcook or let it boil dry. Sometimes the timer works, sometimes it doesn't so you can't rely on it. Worth the hassle in my opinion at such a bargain price, as it cooks very well - I wouldn't pay more than £10, though. If you'd rather not mess about with setting a timer separately, then pay more for a model with a better timing device.

I bought this 'compact' inexpensive steamer around two months ago and have to say I am very pleased with its performance. At first I thought it might be a bit on the small side for my needs but I have been very impressed with everything about it ever since it arrived. It steams vegetables extremely well and the tiny water reservoir is ample for one hour of steaming should you need that long.

I sent this product back as it is very flimsy, fragile and cheap looking. I did not like it at all!
