This kettle lives up to its claims, it is elegant and efficient, boils quickly and quietly, etc.
However, there is one nasty snag. The instructions warn us to boil a full kettle three times to rid it of "manufacturing dust". You should certainly do this, but the matter does not end there. After this is done,when boiling the kettle there is a strange smell in the room, a smell that is replicated when you taste the tea. I feel sure it comes from the plastic inserts that line the kettle. Repeated boilings did not cure this taste/smell for weeks, in fact it took me a month before it was gone. Can it be mildly poisonous, I wonder? It is true I felt no ill effects, but drinking the tea was not pleasant. The manufacturers need to look into this.

This item should not be described as 'quiet boil' - it is not, mis-descriptions act I think? The sole purpose of purchasing this item was because it is advertised as quiet boil, it is impossible to try these thing out b4 buying it. It is almost as noisy as a jumbo jet apart from that it is a nice looking kettle which serves its purpose. The first 5 boils it was perfect then all of a sudden the noise level increases, extremley disappointed by this item now have to faff about sending it back... :-(

Had Russell Hobbs products for most of our married life. Been through the original kettle shape when they first started "switching off automatically". Have had two Montana but they are very noisy and as we have a small kitchen, open-plan, radio and TV need volume increased when kettle is on. Now we have had Serenity for almost a week and it is wonderful, hardly know it is on. Maybe we are fortunate in living in a soft water area so limescale is not a problem. Just love the button operated lid, great addition to the kettle also so easy to see how much water you have put in and it doesn't matter if you are right or left handed, scale is shown either side. Only criticism is that it is very heavy so it helps if your power point is reasonably close to the sink. Will wait a few months to make sure we are still happy with it before ordering one for our son.
