This is a very simple to use coffee machine. It has everything you need, and a digital display. The jug does not sit on a hot plate but keeps the coffee warm as it is air tight and made of a very thick metal so you can take it into the garden or wherever you want. The coffee does not taste like plastic and with the machine you also get a 50% off a purchase of a very posh coffee on a certain website. You can tell the machine to start before you get up by using the digital display. The coffee comes out fairly hot for a filter coffee maker and the machine is made extremely well.

Well done Russel Hobbs for making a coffee machine that produces lovely coffee and is reliable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product 3 Jun 2009
Bought this a month ago and I am really pleased with it. If you pre heat the jug I am finding coffee is still hot 2/3 hours later and because it is not on a hot plate it isn't stewing. Great because it is mobile you so can take it wherever you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot coffee virtually on tap 31 May 2009
I bought this for a friend, and she is very pleased with it indeed. She reports that the coffee stays hot for longer than the manufacturer claims - up to an hour and a half. The secret is to remember to warm the jug with boiling water for five minutes at the start.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Coffee's Made 5 Nov 2008

When deciding on a Filter Coffee maker I had an abundance of choice. The Russell Hobbs caught my eye as it had a nice look, decent price and allowed me to time my coffee to brew when I wake up. This makes it a slightly advanced coffee maker as you use the clock to set up you coffee either for a full pot or up to 4 cups. The build quality is good and timer is a great thing. However, it does suffer from lime scale build up in hard water areas and mine may already be broken after only a few months. I think that complaints over the temperature are a little harsh as it heats up well if you give the coffee 2 or 3 minutes in the pot (don't drink it straight away).

Overall, I really love my coffee maker - let's hope I can get it working again, if not I will have to send it off for repairs. I would recommend this to people looking for a solid mid priced coffee maker that has the added ability to make timed coffee.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but not perfect 26 May 2009

Good value but a bit clumsy to use... hard to get water in without spilling and need to be tall to reach the top so not for the vertically challenged like me

3.0 out of 5 stars Russell Hobbs coffee maker 10 Oct 2009
Verified Purchase
My last coffee maker packed it in due to calcification I think. I liked the thermos style jug which doesn't cook the coffee on a heating pad and manages to keep the coffee hot for a fairly long time. Microwaving this coffee is fine as it hasn't been cooking.

You have to be careful with these jugs as they hold a little bit of water in themselves and if you shake the jug out using the handle you will end up loosening the handle which can't be tightened. So hold the jug by its body. It recommends you empty the machine of excess water after each use which is a bit of a hassle considering the short chord that comes with the unit. I'm doing these things and planning on decaling every six months to make the machine last as long as possible. I haven't had the unit long enough to see if the electronics are faulty but I have high hopes as Hobbs are pretty reliable. I'd recommend this machine and there aren't many other of its kind on the market.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lukewarm coffee 26 Dec 2009

I bought this machine as it seemed to do exactly what I wanted it to do. Unfortunately it does not keep the coffee warm for any length of time at all. It must be poured as soon as it is made, then it is fine. I wanted a thermal jug which would actually keep the coffee warm for at least an hour!

Great machine. Find the clock unnecessary. If we want to economise on stand-by lights, we have to set the clock every day.

Produces good hot coffee but you must ensure the top of the jug is lined up correctly - we have had several lakes of coffee on the work surface which is really annoying.
