1.0 out of 5 stars good toaster but didn't last long 28 Feb 2006
I bought this toaster just over a year ago though we didn't use it until late last Feb when our new cooker was installed. Until recently we've been very pleased with the product. The toast browned nice and even and the toaster looked good. Just recently something has gone wrong with the ditial programming and the toast will no longer pop up when ready. As it is just out of guarantee I phoned Russel Hobs direct. It seems we have to send it back to them at our expence and they will decide whether to charge us for the repair (or not)This toaster is heavy to send through the post and therefore not worth the trouble and expence especially if the company then decide to charge us for the repair. This toaster is at the more expensive end of the price range and in my view we should expect a little more than a years wear from it.Pity because otherwise I would have said it was a perfect toaster.

2.0 out of 5 stars Broken just out of guarantee 2 July 2006
Nice toaster but within 13 months the internal circuit board has ceased to work. Contacted the supplier and told it can't be repaired and I should buy new one. As this is a top of the range toaster I would have expected it to last a lot longer when used very little.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good-looking but temperamental 19 Jan 2007
I bought this toaster a while ago to complement a shiny new kitchen, recently finished. My wife and I now hold our breath whenever we carefully push down the lever to make toast: not too hard and not too heavy, just wait until the little red light comes on, then quietly take your finger off - and hope the bread doesn't immediately pop back up. It works if you've kept a deft touch and eye, otherwise you just growl at your reflection in the chrome. Not a machine for a hungry family. The panini machine in the same range is much more robust.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly works, but looks good 11 Nov 2007
By Tom
There's no doubt about it that this is a good looking toaster, but it has a few niggles. In terms of turning bread into toast; this does what I expect of a toaster.

One simple issue with this device is that if the electricity goes, unlike a more conventional toaster, it reverts to the default setting. My flat mates found this annoying when we first got it, but it's quirk you learn to put up with quickly.

A more annoying aspect is that it sometimes does not work. To be precise, pressing the lever down does not cause it to catch, instead the toast keeps popping up immediately unless I hold it down. I've found this can be solved by unplugging the toaster for a few seconds. However the toaster will reset and your toast will come up done on the default setting. Some times this can be a bit much in the morning.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great and Poor 18 July 2007
Good looking and quick toaster - which has broken after very limted use!! The handle won't stay down. I have to send it to Russell Hobbs for repair - so repair postage and repair costs knock that on the head. Might as well buy another (not Russell Hobbs) new one! Happy toasting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice looks. Shame about the rest 9 Jun 2005
By Andy
Certainly well designed and attractive. Seems well built from good materials also, so should last a fair while. A shame it can't do its job. Not sure what the lights correspond to but it's ceratinly not extent of cooking. From cold, 5 lights will toast 2 slices of Vogel's Sunflower & Barley. The next two will be burned to a crisp on 4 lights. Thankfully, Vogel's bread pops and crackles when it's just done. Another little niggle: The return spring is so weak that there's very little noise when your toast does pop up. Of course, I want piping hot toast so I have to watch the thing like a hawk! In summary; At least your visitors will think you have wonderful toast, beautifully presented, even if you don't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs 8 Jun 2008
We liked the design; after our first one blew up after 15 months we looked around but ended up buying another. Guess what; 15 months later and that one too has now broken. Nice to look at, but that's it for Russell and Hobbs I'm afraid.
