oooh what a happy evening I spent devouring Russell's shenanigans! I really enjoyed this book. It made such a change from having to read the usual tabloid rubbish about him. This book is definately in a league above the usual 'cut and paste' celebrity biographies. Thre was loads of stuff that I didn't know about him and interviews with people who obviously know him well. As a Russell fan I felt like the author didn't shy away from Russell's more unsavoury doings but offered insight into how and why. Tanith Carey seems to have enjoyed writing this book and it shows, some of her tongue in cheek and wry comments made me laugh out loud...not as funny as Russell, obviously.. love the qoute 'my life is a series of embarrassing incidents, strung together by me talking about them.'

I have been intrigued by Russell for a while - and this book takes a really good look at the what made him the person he is today. Most unauthorised celebrity biogs are just a patchwork of old interviews. This book though has interviews with loads of people from his past, including his old school mates, teachers and old workmates so it's not just the version you hear from Russell. I laughed out loud at some of the stuff he used to get up - like walking round the streets shouting 'I am telly!' I also never realised he was a really good actor. I also almost cried when I read about his childhood and came away feeling I understood him. It was also really readable. I started it on the bus on the way to work and finished it that night! The pictures of Russell looking really differnet when he was a teenager and also early on really made me laugh too. If you are fan of Russell, you have to read this book!!!!!!

Although Russell has now written his own book - this is still a really interesting book for the shelf of any true Brand fan. Russell's was frank but this book also speaks to all the people around him at the time and gives a much more rounded view of what Russell was like at his worst as well as at his best and shows how lucky he was to still have a career. No autobiog is really objective which is why this fills out the whole picture. I have read the Carey book three times now - and reading it together with Russell's make me feel like I finally know the man.
