4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed but fabulous, 9 April 2007
By Ms. H. Hughes (wales, UK) - See all my reviews

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Russell Brand - he's smart, hilarious and weirdly endearing. However, i don't feel that this particular DVD does real justice to his talents.

Although there are some stand-out funny moments here that more than justify buying this DVD, some parts seemed forced and the act as a whole didn't really seem to flow that smoothly.

In my opinion, Russell is at his best when he's improvising and just going with the flow, or at least when performing an act which he hasn't done over and over again (the short act he performed at the Secret Policeman's Ball has to be one of the funniest pieces of stand-up I've ever seen).

When i went to see his show in Birmingham recently, there was thankfully only about 30 minutes worth of the material on this DVD included, instead he spent most of the night ad-libbing - engaging with the audience and reading articles from the local paper - to fabulous comedic effect.

Still, this DVD is very funny and it made me laugh A LOT. In my opinion it's definitely worth buying (unless very graphic sex references make you feel uncomfortable, that is).

However, I can't give it 5 stars - however much I would like to - because I know he can do so much better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny Material but flawed DVD, 22 Nov 2006
By Gary Findlay "GawyU" (Glasgow) - See all my reviews

I love russle brand, what can you say. He's funny.

However

Give the DVD a miss,b ecause the editorial work is excessive and clumsy. Too many fast cuts around the stage for no reason and the constant, cut to a laughing audeince member just ruins the experience. When at a live show I rarely turn to look at everyone else laughing at the joke, I don't need that kind of reassurance that what I'm watching is funny.

The editor was clearly bored and/or self indulgant. Maybe he should have watched bill baleys part troll DVD. Where, he could have picked up a few pointers of non intrusive, vomit free editing.

This DVD should have come with the caption "Included freed drinking game called "the ugly laughing audience member cut"" where during this DVD you drink everytime you get a cut of an audience memeber. By Chapter 2 you'll be sloshed. Every single joke is killed by a cut.

If you can ignore this buy the DVD, if you can't and it annoys you, give this one a miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's a Genius, 4 Jan 2008
By Ms. V. C. Hewitt "rublikeafox" (Kent) - See all my reviews

I think its unfair that people are commenting him so harshly. i thought on this dvd he was funny, charming and original. I hated him on 'big brothers big mouth' but ive grown to love him. i laughed so much when he was saying about riding past the window on the motorbike. i have friends that hated him but have fallen in love after showing them this dvd. hes obvious very intelligent and well read, and this seeps through in his witty humour. id also recommend his book. buy this... buy it now!

I absolutly loved it. He has great charm when telling his stories, a kind of harsh honesty, and this bright bubbly energy you can't help but be drawn in. Read more
