===The Annual Itself===

===Rupert and the Little Plane===
This is a short story of just nine pages. The story is illustrated by Alfred Bestall and was originally published in the Daily Express in 1941.
Rupert calls on his friend Willie Mouse but Willie just rushes to the shed - weird. Willie's uncle has sent him a plane in bits but he cannot fit it together. Rupert helps him to move it out from the shed to the orchard and then into a field. There is not petrol for it but a starting handle. They put it together and it is a sort of helicopter - there is a bull in the field and they take off. However Rupert cannot land it properly and they then come down quite quickly and land in a lake.

These reviews have said basically the same thing for the past four years or so - Poor stories, thin books, only four stories, printed overseas etc. Do the publishers live in a bubble where poor feedback cannot reach them? These books are quite simply awful when compared with the earlier books by Alfred Bestall and John Harrold/Ian Robinson, and each year I expect the Rupert Annual, the book that I have been bought each year by my parents or my wife, to disappear forever......

In the current format, reserve your copy at Poundland now!

There is an answer..... Bring back John Harrold and let him restore Rupert to the heights of popularity that could be achieved! Let him take Rupert back to the adventures that he deserves and his loyal fans want.

Sad to receive another ~thin-big~ Rupert Annual, would love to go back to the old style, smaller books, more stories, better drawings (in the case of new stories, do not like the way they are drawn). No Christmas/snowy story this year, shame about this as love them best,but there are 3 reprinted stories from the 1942..1960..1996 annuals, so only one brand new tale! Thought I recognized them. Seems strange to reprint stories when the facsimile annuals are produced each year, only hope it is not the end for Rupert, cause for all my not being over enthused for the new annuals,would hate the thought of Rupert Annuals coming to an end altogether!

After collecting Rupert annuals now for the past 40 years, it seemed that I missed this (last) years annual, I always buy one as soon as I see one in the shops. And I didnt!
I got this years copy of the Repro annual on time, but seems as if several 1960's annuals are missing as well??

I then found I couldn't get 2011 Rupert annual, as everywhere had sold out??? I then read the REVIEWS, and seems that there is no need to explain what's going on.
Yesterday I got a copy via amazon, and its all true!
The annual is the same size, but is only half as thick, there are only 4 stories, all OLD reprints, NO new stories.

So is this the end of a line, this is how Rupert ends his days, like all reviews - this IS A POOR ANNUAL - What is going on

DISAPPOINTED - is all one can say...

Yet again the Rupert Bear Annual has shrunk in size. It is poor value at the full RRP, and it is a good job that a heavily discounted price is available through Amazon for serious collectors.

Like previous reviews I too was disappointed with the quality and thickness of this annual but seeing I have brought a Rupert Annual each year for my daughter since she was born I feel I have to keep it for her collection. Definatley far better annuals out there than this.

This volume contains four Rupert stories.
Rupert and the Little Plane was first published in the 1942 annual.
Rupert and Ozzie was first published in the 1960 annual.
Rupert and the Mail Train was previously published in the 1996 annual.
Rupert and Robo is a new story.
Rupert Annuals typically used to have six stories.
At least the 1942 story is a great Alfred Bestall story and probably worth the money on its own.
