futuristic violent fun! (for all regions),
By
This review is from: Running Man [DVD] [1988] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
Always had a soft spot for this cheesy but entertaining Arnie vehicle.
The story is set in the future about a uber-violent tv gameshow where convicts are forced to fight to the death in some quite elaborate ways. Cue some classic Arnie one-liners, action and chase sequences, topped off with a great ending. Features the great Yaphet Kotto, and the lovely Maria Conchita Alonso. Trivia; Maria and Arnie, both faced the alien 'Predator', Arnie in the original Predator (Special Edition) [1987] and Maria in the unimaginably titled but underrated Predator sequel Predator 2 (2 Disc Special Edition) [1990], also similarly set in a violent future. This was of course before the alien-v-predator franchise tarnished it forever... They've really pushed the boat out here on this 2 disc version, with a great remastered anamorphic,(unlike the standard version[ASIN:B00005JSGU The Running Man [1987] [1988]]] widescreen (and fullscreen) print, 5.1EX,6.1 DTS-ES soundtracks, commentaries, documentaries etc. making this the definitive DVD version to get. Note; although listed as region 1, i tested it in both a region 1 and 2 locked player, and it appears there is no regional coding applied, and why indeed should any older title such as this have any?

Keep on running!,

It's an Arnie classic, although highly humourous to view a film about the future so stuck in the eighties. Resonates with all the reality TV on screen nowdays, although you can't help thinking Big Brother would be improved greatly if Jade Goody was forced to "Climb for Dollars." Arnie quips his way through the film only to be out quipped by a marvellous Richard Dawson (even good ole La Fours gets a quality last line) and a fantastic Jesse Ventura hairpiece. A solid entertaining sci-fi actioner, although certainly showing its age!

run for your life,

the running man is a very cheesey movie,i know many who loathe this but im a big fan of it,arnie may at times look awkward in his little running man suit but the action, the kills and the shocking puns that arnie throws out all make for a classic in the genre.
The film is set in 2017 and arnie is a cop,the world we live in is drowning in chaos and society has little standards left, when arnie is asked to kill a rioting mob who just want food,he declines and the killing happens anyway, but with the use of film trickery arnie is captured on tape killing the mob so he is sent down for his crimes.A gameshow called the running man where people run for their lives against all kind of heroes is now americas biggest television show and arnie fits the bill for the show,he will be asked to make his way from a to z and if he passes through the perils then he will be afforded freedom or so he thinks. The film is high paced and violent, there is no morals to it,heaven forbid, but at the same time,it is what it is,mindless and numb fun,not for all clearly but still a cracking show.
