This book is a MUST have for anyone who has even the slightest interest in the body piercing industry/world, let alone us that work in it! Jim Wards dedication to bringing body piercing to the modern world cannot be underestimated and this the story of just how he did it with all the ups and downs that came along the way. A riveting read from start to finish with wonderful photography cataloging the birth of the modern body piercing movement throughout. 5 *****

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and important book 28 Feb 2011
By Eric - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
What an amazing and important book. With the cultural phenomenon of body modification that has exploded over the past thirty years, it's so important to chronicle one of the most important pioneers in the field.
From his humble Oklahoma beginnings to opening the world's first commercial body piercing studio in the 70's, Jim Ward writes with an accessible style for both the aficionado and the curious outsider. He does this by writing from the heart and telling his amazing story.
The full color photographs are breathtaking and beautiful. There's even the "costume malfunction" of Janet Jackson to highlight the Gauntlet jewelry that she was wearing. This makes a great coffee-table book if you have friends that would appreciate body piercing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story. Well written. 1 Mar 2011
By Kathy T. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Regarding: piercing - If you have ever asked yourself "I wonder how...." This is the book for you. Being the "father of the modern piercing industry" Jim Ward is well qualified to write this story and he does so in a writing style that kept me riveted. Think about it for a moment. Putting a magazine together before personal computers and Photoshop? Body piercing before the proper tools existed? Having to design the body jewelry and tools AND make them yourself? Starting a first of its kind business? Wow! Jim and his friends evolved "backroom piercing" into the craft it remains today and he takes us with him through the process. The photos are plentiful, beautiful (and explicit). Tiny gems of history weave through the background of the story. This book is not just for piercing enthusiasts. (Some of us only have the usual holes in the ears). For anyone who lived, loved, lost and survived the last 40 or so years, this is a book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read! 18 Mar 2011
By Julie Moreno - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a definite must read for anyone who is interested in piercing. Even if you are not interested in piercings and are looking for a good book to read then this is a book you need. Jim Ward is so honest and candid about his life and experience in starting a business (the first of it's kind) that it keeps you completely engaged. I could not put the book down once I started it.
