The first thing I have to say is that even if you don't like the sound of this book take a chance. Written by the fantastic Brian K. Vaughan the Runaways is a true classic of modern comics and almost universally loved. The format of a TV series cliff-hanger ending style is invigorating and engrossing. The art work is fantastic and compliments the tone of the book. I recommend you read this but have one suggestion, read each comic with at least a 10 minute break between them to get the full experience. Like a good television series it's never as enjoyable if you watch it all in one go. Thankfully Runaways has been renewed for a second series, which I'm reading as each issue is released, let’s hope a third is in the cards.

Teenagers. When you're one you think you know everything, but it's really the time when you make all your mistakes. You also think that you're mature and clever and beyond childish things.
Runaways is an excellent evocation of that time of life, giving you a good impression of teens with super powers who are just having their eyes opened to how big the world is. The reason for this? Their parents are super villains. It's an excellent high concept that should produce a wealth of good stories if this collection is anything to go by.
The writing is hip and humorous, packed with pop references. The art develops as the collection goes on, which is a little bit of a shame, as the work in the final third is absolutely exquisite from compostion to colouring and it is a shame that it isn't of that quality from the start, but it is still nice to look at, even in the rougher stages.

RUNAWAYS is a graphic novel published by Marvel Comics revolving around six teenagers with nothing in common except for the fact that their parents know each other. Once a year they are forced to spend an evening together while their parents have a secret meeting. Unable to stand the boredom during one of these nights, the kids decide to sneak in and see what really goes on behind the closed doors of these meetings. They learn that their parents are supervillains with powers that are maintained by sacrificing a human life on an annual basis. Witnessing the sacrifice shatters the kids' world and sends them running for their lives.

Nico, Gertrude, Chase, Karolina, Molly, and Alex learn their true heritage and each get a weapon or a power that they didn't know they had. Nico is the daughter of dark wizards and carries the "Staff of One," which allows her to cast spells. Gertrude is the daughter of time-traveling criminals and receives a genetically engineered deinonychus which she shares a telepathic bond with. Chase is the son of mad scientists and he uses high-tech gadgets he stole from his parents' laboratory to help them with their missions. Karolina is the daughter of alien invaders and can fly and manipulate solar energy. Molly is the daughter of evil mutants and has super strength, and Alex is the son of crime bosses and turns out to be a big surprise.

The kids run underground and hide in a place they call "The Hostel" and try to come up with ways to thwart their parents' evil plans and help the world -- while at the same time, stay alive.

Comic book fans will be glad to see some familiar superheroes make appearances throughout the book, such as Captain America and Cloak and Dagger. RUNAWAYS VOL.

The book looked great and brand new, as soon as it was opened though the pages started falling out. I asked for a replacement, offering to cover postage, I was offered 15% off. At least it didn't cost much.

Got this book last week and read all 18 issues in 4 days! I never really knew much about this book but after reading all the great reviews of the individual issues I took a chance and it was well rewarded. The writing and art are both top notch and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys something a bit different from the normal super-hero comic. You really get to care about the characters and there is a guest appearance by Cloak and Dagger although in the main it steers clear of the rest of the marvel universe. The 18 issues contained in this volume tell a complete story although Runaways has now been relaunched with a new number 1.

Good story, not as good as volume one.

In regards to the book, it could have been in better condition.
As I started to read, pages near the front became very loose.
They did not fall out, but only due to my care.

I believe they will when I read again.

However other than that it was not damaged so I can't complain.
Just bear in mind.
