Series continues strong. 27 Jan 2010
By Robert P. Beveridge - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Brian K. Vaughan, Runaways, vol. 2: Teenage Wasteland (Marvel, 2005)

So the pack have themselves a hideout, a mission, and a big problem: the Pride have set things up to look like the murder the kids witnessed in book 1 was carried out by Alex, and that the batch have kidnapped Molly. To that end, their mole in the police department, acting without the Pride's knowledge, has called in Cloak and Dagger, a couple of B-grade superheroes (as Alex snidely mentions) to track them down and recover Molly. Meanwhile, a couple of the group's members head out for food and discover the local Circle K (excuse me, Circle A) being robbed by what seem like a trio of superheroes--except that the one they capture, Topher, says the other two are his parents, and they forced him into it. Another kid with supervillain parents? The group has a seventh member... takes on superhero comics have been getting more cynically self-aware for a couple of decades now, but that doesn't mean a strong writer can't still bring some solid new ideas to the table, and Vaughan is doing that here. So far, I like this series a great deal. *** ½
