Just a few months ago, very few people outside Kansas City, Missouri knew there was a young, dynamic musician named Samantha Fish getting ready to take the world by storm. In fact, it's not all that long ago that the 22-year-old singer/guitarist first discovered the blues and started paying her dues on that city's local scene. With 'Runaway', her solo debut, she now breaks out big time, announcing herself as a newcomer to be reckoned with. The album's nine original songs and pair of covers incorporate "all the sounds I grew up with, with my own spin," says Fish, who seems to have spent her formative years in the Midwest soaking up a vast array of musical styles. Runaway features sharp-edged, riff-driven blues "Down in the Swamp", breakneck boogies "Runaway", smoky, late-night jazz "Feeling Alright" as well as hints of the sultry 70s hard rock of Ann and Nancy Wilson and the 4/4 ruggedness of the Rolling Stones. Throughout, Fish demonstrates astonishing range and depth as a songwriter. Her vocals are cool, confident and nothing less than beguiling.

Samantha is backed by Brit Jamie Little on drums, Cassie Taylor (Otis's daughter) on bass and producer Mike Zito adds his classy lead guitar to most tracks. This isn't just studio trickery either, take a look on Youtube and see Samantha doing it live with her own band. I look forward to seeing Samantha develop further in the future.
Both albums are stunning. Awesome Blues rhythm, her voice is stunning and has a good vocal range....and her guitar playing skills are very very good. You must buy this album....
Sam is a breath of fresh air for me. This is how i like my "blues rock". Simple riffs that stay in your head for days after. Lively guitar playing with a passion so often missing from others.
With Sam It's all about "tone". She uses a simple rig with just a couple of pedals, one of which i think is a tuner!
Her sound comes more from her fingers and an obvious love for what she does, and she does it so well.
I should mention her vocals. She has a great bluesy voice that captivated me from the first track. This still very young lady is the "real deal". Go take a look on YouTube.
Tracks! I forgot to mention anything about them. Well they are all winners for me. "Down In The Swamp" is one to listen too, and "The Other Side Of The Bottle" is just about my favorite. But that changes all the time.
My copy is getting played so much that soon i will have to get another!
Look up my playlist on YouTube..MITCHWILD.
From beginning to end this is one pure funky master lesson in the Blues...
Samantha has the voice, the chops and the whole band have a rawness and swagger that is absent from mainstream music today...
The title track, Otherside of the Bottle and Louisiana Rain deserve special mention...
I cannot reccomend this album enough...
SF is one of my favourite artistes who is signed to the German record label, Ruf Records. Since this first CD release of SF's two more equally as excellent studio albums have since followed of hers.
Samantha Fish's ''cover'' of, ''Louisiana Rain'', is a Tom Petty song.
