'His achievements are inspirational and as an endurance athlete he's untouchable.' --Metro

Product Description

In his follow-up to the best-selling Ultramarathon Man, world-renowned ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes chronicles his remarkable exploits and explorations in gripping detail. Karnazes runs for days on end without rest, across some of the most exotic and inhospitable places on earth, including the Australian Outback, Antarctica and the back alleys of New Jersey. From the downright hilarious to the truly profound the stories in Run! provide readers with the ultimate escape and offer a rare glimpse into the mindset and motivation of an extreme athlete, one who has 'not only pushed the envelope but blasted it to bits.'

Karnazes addresses pain and perseverance, and he also charts the emotional as he pushes to the edges of human achievement. The tales of the friendships he's cultivated on his many adventures around the world warm the heart, and are sure to captivate and inspire readers whether they run great distances, modest distances, or not at all.

'Karnazes transformation ... into an international symbol of human achievement is as educational as it is inspirational.' - Wired

cashing in! 7 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
I love Dean and it was his first book UltraMarathonMan which got me into Ultra-running so I owe him a lot of gratitude. UltraMarathonMan was fresh and I just couldnt put it down, but RUN was never going to be as good. What lets it down is that the same stories crop up in RUN that he talked about in his previous books. Whilst I was expecting a lot more, its still a worthwhile read if you are a Dean fan!

Enjoyable read 13 Oct 2011
By Alison TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Run! was the first Dean Karnazes book that I have read and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm a relatively new and very keen runner and biographical books around the subject of running really interest me. The book is a collection of small stories featuring Dean and some of his running friends and acquaintances. There isn't a strong chronological thread or theme that flows from one chapter to the other - just the overall topic of crazy ultrarunning.

I think this book will appeal to keen runners who want a bit of running inspiration and insight into an unusual man.

Recommended. I'll be looking up Dean's earlier books and reading them soon.

By Julia Flyte TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
This is the third book written by ultra marathoner Dean Karnazes about his crazy long distance running exploits. His first book was a compelling read about how he became an ultramarathoner, whereas his second book centered on his project to run 52 consecutive marathons in every state of America. While still an engaging read, this book is the weakest of the three, because it doesn't have as clear a focus. Rather it's a mash of Dean's thoughts about long distance running combined with descriptions of some of the races and events that he's taken on in the past couple of years. There are large segments that rehash territory he's covered before: Long distance running hurts/you get hungry/you chafe etc.

Dean's friendship with Topher and Topher's evolution as a runner is one theme that continues throughout the book and Topher even contributes a chapter describing his first 100 mile event. I also enjoyed reading about Dean's participation in the "4 Deserts" series - ultramarathons in the Atacama Desert, Gobi Desert, the Sahara Desert and Antarctica.

Towards the end Dean introduces his next goal. Starting November 2012, he wants to spend a year running a marathon in every single country in the world. Sounds impossible, exhausting and potentially dangerous: but never count out Karno.

ok stories
I think it is good stories about every aspect of running, but the author seems a little selfish (but maybe thats his style?)

Not as good as his others
I've read his first two books - the first one is without doubt his best.

As others have said this book is a collection of stories and some appear in the first two books. Read more

Is ok
Starts well but tails off. He doesn't have as much to say post Ultramarathon Man. Some of it is unconvincing especially when you know a little about the one man marketing... Read more

More of the same...
For those who have pointed out that this is just more of the same from Dean Karnazes, then I would have to agree. And that's what makes it another great read!!!

not good content, not well written, not interesting
I love this sort of book generally but I gave up on this at chapter 20 out of 26. It is an ego trip and not at all interesting. Don't buy

We often think people who achieve great things never fail, that success comes naturally to them. This, of course, is a mistake. Truth is that risk-taking breeds failure and failure breeds success. Basketball legend Michael Jordan said it perfectly: Ive missed more than nine thousand shots in my career. Ive lost almost three hundred games. Twenty-six times, Ive been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. Ive failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. "e;
