Format:VHS Tape
This is a sad but nevertheless charming story of an emotionally disturbed 10-year-old boy and his need to love and be loved. Even as a toddler, young Philip Ransome has shown a fascination for the moors where he and his parents live. For some unexplained reason, he has been unable to speak since the age of five and has lost the ability to communicate with his parents or anyone else. His parents ( played by Sylvia Sims and Gordon Jackson ) find it difficult to cope with him. His mother is over-protective and his father is impatient and frustrated by his son's behaviour.
A retired colonel ( played by John Mills ) befriends the boy and attempts to help him, but it is the friendship of a white colt which finally brings Philip the love and affection that he is seeking. Unfortunately, this is not an end to his troubles or of those around him.
In my opinion, this was Mark Lester's finest performance. I wanted to hug him throughout and I was almost moved to tears at the end. It's a real shame that this is not yet on dvd.
By the way, the music score by David Whitaker is highly effective and is a prime example of how background music can contribute to or even create the atmosphere of a film.

Pour the Tea, turn up the Fire and spend an afternoon with this little cracker... The emotional story of a young boy lost in his own silent world, until that is a Pony arrives on the scene.. Fantastic heartfelt entertainment with an all star Brit cast, John Mills fits perfectly as the retired colonel, Sylvia Syms (how gorgeous was she !!!!) as the heartbroken mum.. Great sets, great background score, beautiful story told.. I loved it, near had me in tears when he finally talks, his parents gape in amzement.. Cracking stuff, why not on DVD yet ?? BUY IT !!!!!
