Book Description

14 April 2011

From the author of Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller Damaged, the gripping story of a woman caught in a horrific cycle of abuse - and the desperate lengths she must go to, to escape.

When Aisha spots an ad for a 'personal introductory service for professionals' in the newspaper, she could never have guessed it would lead to such a perfect marriage. But you should be careful what you wish for…

Mark is sorry the first time he hits Aisha. His tears make her all the more determined to be a better wife; not to let herself down again. But however hard Aisha tries, she can't live up to Mark's impossible expectations – or escape his terrifying, violent temper. Soon she is trapped in a cycle of horrific abuse and imprisonment. And with two young children to protect, Aisha must draw on what strength she has left to find an escape.

What follows is something so devastating it plunges Aisha into her darkest days yet. Is the price she must pay for freedom too high?

More About the Author

I live in middle England and have three children, two birth children and one adopted. When I left school I held a clerical position in the civil service, which I left to start a family. At the same time I became a foster carer, which is the inspiration for much of my writing. I have been a foster carer for over twenty-five years and am what's known as a specialist foster carer, sometimes referred to as a level 3 carer. This is in recognition of my experience and qualifications and means that I am often asked to look after children with complex needs or very challenging behaviour. I have a degree in education and psychology which I was awarded as a mature student.

I have always been a writer - from when I was at school, with poems in the school magazine. In my teens I began writing short stories, articles, a few radio plays, and entering writing competitions. Like many writers it was a hobby - something I did almost furtively in my spare time, while working, and then later fostering and looking after my family. The two halves of my life - writer and foster carer - came together in 2007 when I wrote about a child I'd fostered and the book immediately became a number one best seller. Since then there have been many bestsellers, thanks to you, my readers. I really appreciate all your support and best wishes. Cathy xxx

With ease and diplomacy Cathy tells the story of Aisha's life through love, loss & betrayal. A difficult subject of predatory grooming, emotional and physical abuse, yet perfectly told in a factual light, with a fast engrossing pace; you won't want to put this book down! A truly emotional and heartbreaking story approached with diplomacy and compassion as only Cathy knows how. I have read many of Cathy's previous books, but was a little unsure as this was not focused on her role as a foster carer, however with such a wonderfully written story I was not let down at all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Run Mummy Run 3 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book over the last weekend of 2012, I hadn't got very far into the book before I wrote on the flyleaf that Mark had Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Dangerous, very Dangerous. I carried on reading and I knew I was right. I have been married to a Narcissist for 24 years, mine is verbally abusive not physically, but the element of control is much the same. Abusers like to make you believe you are weak, but the strength required to function on a day to day level while living with a control freak is phenomenal, almost all your energy is taken up with surviving, second guessing so as not to provoke more abuse but the abuser keeps changing the rules and you have to be almost superhuman to keep up. Well done to Aisha for getting out, well done Cathy Glass for writing about it. I am divorcing my husband but he is very slippery, to the outside world he is charm personified, I've been told he is fun to be with, everybody's friend, do anything for anyone, always first to volunteer, but behind closed doors he can be nasty, vindictive, changes events - I never said that, you misunderstood, you are making it up, its not as bad as you make out, he has verbally abused both me and our daughter to the extent that our daughter has self harmed for some time and has been seen by CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health service) was having counselling at school and now at college, I've been called a witch and the bitch wife from hell, but the worst name I have been called is WIFE. I can understand that Aisha isn't in any hurry to get into another relationship, you doubt your sanity when in an abusive relationship and how can you trust anyone again.

Having read almost all of Cathy's books l think this is the most one so far. It is an excellent story and really made me think about domestic violence and how brave the children and adults are that have to face this everyday.I would urge everyone to buy this book. I do prefer reading the books that Cathy and her family are in but this book was the best and l surprisingly loved it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read 26 July 2011
This book had me gripped from beginning to end and I had it read within two days. This is the first novel of Cathy's which I have read and I wasn't sure if it would live up to her other books (based on her experience as a foster carer which are excellent)but it did. Another excellent read from Cathy Glass - can't wait for more!!
